Hello, I have just purchased a nice Sako AV and was wondering if any you Sako nuts could help me find out what year it was made. It has a 6 digit serial number 66047x. It only says Sako AV on the receiver, no mention if its a L61R or not. Judging by the serial number I am thinking it is somewhere around 1990-1991 but don't know for sure. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Sako will list it as L61R even if it's stamped AV. I have factory paperwork that shows L61R and AV designations of the same rifle...a long action Sako is a long action Sako whether it's an L61R, AIII, AIV or AV...the difference is the length of the rear tang, which was shorter on anything other than an AV...and later AV's had the newer trigger design without sear engagement adjustment which was later installed on the 75 and 85 series rifles.
Here's the factory paperwork for a Sako AV Classic that I once owned....Sako still referes to the AV as an L61R Finnbear.....here, and on the website. This one had the newer trigger design, same trigger as a 75 or 85 rifle.
