Need help and options to choose a new rifle scope around 1000$

Like the title says, I'm looking to buy a scope for my .308 for around 1000$. The rifle is for target shooting and my 10x is not doing the job anymore...I'm doing .5MOA at 100M(5shots) with it but the low magnification make it difficult at longer range....
I was looking for the Sightron 8-32x56 LRMOA but tought I would ask for opinions..Or options...

sightron is a good call. excellent glass. solid clicks. eye relief is good, they are solid scopes for the $.

jerry at mystic can give you hand finding and choosing one.
 
I have the sightron on a 223 and use it for coyote, ground hogs, target, etc. Works great for everything. The small aiming point is a little tough to see in low light. Would be awesome if it was available with illumination. I had a Swarovski Z5 3.5 x 18 on the rifle previously and the sightron holds its own with more magnification.

I'm far from being an expert at this JPNICK but I'm going to suggest that for longer range you'd be well advised to direct those $$ toward optical quality rather than just hyping magnification. The farther out you go, "it seems to me", the more clarity becomes the predominant issue. You'll probably also want a finer reticle design than is typically popular with hunters.

I'm pretty sure a buddy of mine has that exact same scope on his 300 Win Mag long range build. It's a solid scope for the money.
 
IMO, Sightron SIII, Vortex Viper PST, used Leupold Mark4, Bushnell Elite Tactical are good choices.

Zeiss are good scopes but they have a one inch tube wich mean less elevation adjustment than most of the 30mm tube scopes...

You must tell us more about what you want : target turrets ??? side focus ??? minimum and maximum magnification ???

I bought a Vortex Viper PST SFP 4-16X50 last week...should receive it this week. I hope to not be disapointed. :p
 
I am looking to buy a Zeiss like yours (Conquest 6.5-20x50_1" tube) to put on my new F class 1000 yard rig that is being put together as we speak. Do you know how many minutes of angle vertical travel that scope can handle? I belive for 1000 yards, you need 50 MOA elevation adjustment. Thanks for your reply.

I have one mounted on a 6.5x55 that I shoot to 550 yards without angled bases, but I haven't shot the rifle at 1000 yards yet. The other one, is mounted on a precision 22lr.
 
You'll need a base for that application to get you the elevation.My 4.5 -14 has more adjustment than my 6.5-20 and it won't elevate enough to make 1000.

That is total 50MOA of adjustment , so if you are centered optically you won't be close at all depending on your zero.

Hi, for that 1K range I feel that the Sightron is an excellent choice. I have a 6-24 sIII SS right now and did have the Vortex before that. I feel that the glass and clarity was very close, with the edge going to the Sightron and the bells and whistles going to the Vortex. I traded the Vortex 4-16 PST back to the dealer for a 5-20 Razor HD, and it is definitely a step up from the Sightron and PST but not a huge step though, although twice the price.
I have set the Razor side by side with my Sightron and have done several comparisons with other shooters who have done lots of long distance shooting with various scopes, and it is unanimous that the Vortex Razor is clearer, etc.....but every person who looks thru the Sightron is surprised at how nice it is and how close it is in comparison for 1/2 the price. If absolute clarity is key, I'd go with the Sightron, but I love the Vortex stuff and their no hassle warranty and also that I had my PST for 2 months and the dealer took it back on trade for my new Razor....hard to beat that kind of service!
A good friend who is a long time very knowledgable precision shooter has been a die hard Bushnell guy for many years and has a couple of the Bushnell 6500's, is actually going to purchase a PST for his next rig after looking thru the 4-16 PST at the store this week. for what thats worth. Don't think you will go wrong with either of those scopes you are considering.
