Need help being able to hunt in BC!

rules are rules.

in the end I wouldn't sweat it. The LEH in bc isn't what it's cracked up to be and you and your friends will probably draw blanks anyways.
Enhanced odds for new bc resident hunters in the LEH system is a load of crap.
I know at least 7 new bc resident hunters who haven't been drawn for a single LEH in 5 years while their spouses and relatives who have been hunting for years get tags nearly every year.

Just wait your turn, it will be fine. Regular seasons aren't so bad

If you moved to BC on or before December 16th, I'd think you'd make it by May 29th. But really, LEH is mostly a waste of money.

As defined in the Wildlife Act:

"resident" means

(a)a person who

(i)is a Canadian citizen or a permanent resident of Canada, whose only or primary residence is in British Columbia, and

(ii)has been physically present in British Columbia for the greater portion of each of 6 calendar months out of the 12 calendar months immediately preceding the date of making an application under this Act or doing another thing relevant to the operation of this Ac

^That, and when did you get your BC I'd or drivers license? They will ask for proof of residency.

I got my drivers license in December, there was no requirement to get it for a month after coming in from AB (I can't recall the exact no of days).

Even if I had exchanged my license on Nov 30th when I first moved to BC I still would be 1 days short of 6 months come May 29th.

Is there any other way to get a deer other than through the draw?

F150 or equivalent

You might want to look at the regular BC hunting regulations prior to worrying about LEH. BC has become increasingly sticky about resident requirements. Making applications prior to your required residency time would not be a prudent decision.

We're migrants without PR unfortunately

Also why is the LEH a waste? Is there no other way of legally getting a deer?

I appreciate your concern and will heed the warning. I am trying to find a way to legally hunt :)

From the Act

"Resident"

(b)a person who

(i)is not a Canadian citizen or a permanent resident of Canada, but whose only or primary residence is in British Columbia, and

(ii)has been physically present in British Columbia for the greater portion of each of the 12 calendar months immediately preceding the date of making an application under this Act or doing another thing relevant to the operation of this Act;

If you're not a Canadian Citizen or Permanent Resident, looks like you need to wait a year.

LEH is mostly a waste of money because many of the odds are very poor. They're bonus tags in a way as most hunts have over the counter tags available and a general open season.

Bah humbug, thank you :D

When you say "Most hunts" what does that mean? Do over the counter tags mean that a resident could simply buy the right to kill a white tail/mule deer etc then go to crown/private land and kill it?

you will also need to take and pass the C.O.R.E course...

And possess a firearms licence - PAL - if you plan on hunting with a firearm.

If not a resident the folks on work visas would most likely have to book a hunt with a Guide to hunt legally and that assumes you have the proper firearms licence. The Non-resident Canadians could apply for a "resident" licence once the waiting period is up. That assumes they have hunting safety courses that are recognized in BC and that their federal firearms licences are current.

I really suggest you DON'T try and talk a local hunter to take you out and let you shoot an animal under their licence. I saw that happen here a few years ago and the fallout wasn't pretty.

You need to start from the beginning by taking the CORE course and get a Fish & Wildlife ID number then you can get a hunting license, then you can buy tags to go hunt deer.

Essentially, obviously there are season dates, etc.

As a non-resident you can get a licence and hunt small game; coyotes, rabbits, ducks, geese, etc.

BC Hunting Regs are online and that will answer your question.
Likely the government will require a version of a Hunters Education course.
There are general open seasons and some regions have restrictions as to how many points on antlers etc...
Again, the BC Hunting Regs are online and can answer 99% on your questions.
You do know what BC stands for ?
