Guys I wanted to buy this LMT AR-15 from questar but I am not sure about the caliber of the rifle or if I am able to customize it ( which I think is possible judging all the customized ones out there). Can someone help me out here before I buy this gun right now. I have a itchy keyboard finger and Im ready to get my christmas present incase we get attacked by Aliens on Christmas! think I saw that happen on one of Ernests movies... heres the link, I think I am just missing it but anything will help right now.

As soon as I finished writing up this thread I saw that..... :slap:

I know the first AR purchase can be exciting, but please take a deep breath and ask what exactly you need help on?

haha got me, okay! Well I bought the gun but now I was wondering if anyone else has bought anything like this from Questar before? I practically just paid for it but nothing else, do I wait until they check my Pal and range info or what? how long would I have to wait? Is Questar reliable? guess just the jitters before I get my new member of the family, the future wife goes and sleeps on the couch once this arrives.

Questar's service has been nothing but first rate, If this is your first restricted transfer, the CFC will at least a week to process it, otherwise it will be a couple of days at the most. as soon as the CFC clears your transfer, Sal from Questar will send you Canada Post tracking number, at that point all you can do is to sit there and watch your package status update.

Considering it is the busiest time of the year for Canada Post, earliest I would guess would be the second week of January.

This year I bought my LMT from Questar and can confirm that the service was excellent. The LMT is the 3rd AR I have purchased and is now the only one I own - I really don't know if it is the best AR out there but I couldn't be happier with mine; an excellent handling and shooting rifle it was pricey but in my opinion was a good value aquisition.

Thanks Tomochan I have been looking for reviews on the gun but alas cant seem to find anything anywhere, although whatever comments I have found have been very positive so I am happy with my purchase so far.

Sorry I am practically a baby to these guns as far as knowledge goes, what do you mean neutered? what am I missing? what is changing or has changed I should say?

In order to meet export regulations from the states manufactures have to make a couple of changes in order to meet the criteria... note the lack of muzzle break, 223 chamber and fixed stock... in the past most of these were a mute point, as of late they are cracking down on the export regs...
more knowledgeable members may be able to elaborate on the specifics of the rules...
This does not mean its not an awesome well made gun from a excellent manufacture, sold by one of the best dealers around... these are all true... it only means to accept a muzzle break you will have to get a smith to thread the barrel... for the stock a simple buffer tube change is needed to gain access to the full range of stock movement... as for the chamber i suspect its simply a 223 marking and the tooling remains the same as the 5.56 chamber... although again I am no expert and I am sure someone else will be able elaborate or contradict what I have said...

Now with this being said LMT makes some of the finest AR platforms out there... and I am sure you will enjoy spending your life's savings on pimping it out... welcome to ARs

Roger that, "neutured" means you'll have to spend extra money to add some of the military features of the firearm to your rifle. Quality, accuracy, function, will not be affected. If I had a choice I'd spend a few extra bones and buy one of the other LMT's Questar still has in stock that is not neutured. It also adds to resale value. ITAR has been in effect for a while, but Questar has always seemed to find there way around some of the perceived rules, such as flash hiders, retractable stocks and milspec caliber stamps. It's just sad to see that even Questar, is now being effected to a greater extent by ITAR. Just my opinion.

Damnit I knew I should have spent the extra dough, what is this gun lacking compared to the military grade version? where do I start to fix this up? f:P:

Nothing...

  • The barrel stamping is different (to meet US State Department restriction) but the quality, testing and specs are otherwise the same. (Do NOT touch the chamber as is perfect just the way it is ;) )
  • The barrel is NOT threaded and instead has a REALLY NICE target crown finish. It's a simple matter to have the barrel threaded and to add a flash hider. If that's something you feel you need then send an email to Sales@Questar.ca and ask Scott to get you a price on doing that work... it's not that much.
  • As for the stock, the receiver extension only has one position so it's not "adjustable" as exported, however, it is a simple matter to drill a couple of holes and thus create additional positions to allow adjustment without adding any expense... or you can pay to have the extension tube replaced with a 6 position tube (we have some in stock).

Other than these couple of small changes (to meet US State Department restrictions) the guns are still "milspec" in the commercial sense of the word and the same high quality that LMT is known for.

Don't worry

Am sure your LMT from Questar will be marked 5.56 and all its other tolerances are built to mil-spec. I got a used Defender 10.5" last year from the EE and the LMT is the best AR I've used so far. Others tell me that I should try Noveske or KAC but at this point just can't afford it.
IMO, the LMT you got will be plenty of AR to start with. Mine has a steady diet of my 55 gr. FMJ reloads and can shoot at 200 meters all day with superb reliability.
Have dealt with Questar myself, their service, including after sales, is excellent.
Wait for your AR to arrive, then do range time. Log onto CGN during your free time and in no time at all, you'll figure out what you will want to add-on. All my LMT needed was a good sling, an Elcan (also from the EE) and its been rocking ever since. Happy shooting and post a range report.:ar15:

Just to clarify, I am a happy Questar customer, having spent several thousand dollars there over the last two years. I have no complaints with Questar, or LMT for that matter, I just prefer the non-neutered rifles. I have owned several LMT AR'S (MRP & Standard) and have been nothing but happy with them. I have no doubt you will enjoy your rifle.
