Hi Guys,
I'm in the process of setting up a 300 win mag for long range shooting and I'm at the point where I am choosing scope. I have a budget of 1700$ plus tax for the scope itself and I have found three models that interest me but I can't seem to decide so I figured I'd get the opinion of other people as well.
fhere are my options:
1- Nikon Black SF1000 6-24X50
2- Vortex Viper PST GenII 5-25X50
3- Zeiss Conquest V4 6-24X50
I like the zeiss a lot but I would have preferred a First focal plane scope.
What would be your choice and why?
I'll be shooting up to 1000 yards but very rarely. Most of the time it will be between 500 and 800 yards.
thanks fort the help!

you don't need a very high power scope to shoot 1000m, keep in mind that a 3-18 would also fit the bill nicely.

Just a thought.

I found that my 6-24 was too far dialled in too often... so I started backing off to 20... 15.... 12 power.... and I found it was much easier to find and hit targets.

I am looking at the 3-18 Kalhes now for my rig as it is much more usable for me.

Granted the higher 24x and 25x scopes are nice for looking at holes.

Save your money and buy a Nightforce. Objects or everything in the long-range game. The more magnification you have the better you can read Mirage good luck.

the gun is ready to shoot other than scope. For the moment I don't want to drop 3000$ on a scope thats why I mentionned those three options. this will be my first real ''long range'' build and I wanted to start off with a scope in the price range I mentionned and once I get better at it I will upgrade to something of better quality later on.
thanks

We used the Kahles 3.5-18 in West Virginia and the at the CAD international sniper match in Gagetown and shot at 1025m. Great optics and features - short, ZS, usable reticle.

I have the Nikon FX1000 4-14 but have yet to mount it. I know one of the Nikon reps in the States has shot one on his PRS match gun all season and it's held up (he's a consistent top 10 guy).

I'd look for a used scope as well. It's a shameless plug but I'm selling a Bushnell Elite HDMR2 for $1700. They're awesome scopes ( I have 2) and a much better long range option than the other scopes on your list, imo. FFP, good mag range (3.5-21), great reticle, bomb proof and great tracking. That being said a good scope with a mag range in the 4-14 or 3-18 will do you fine. The higher mag is really only good for zeroing and resolving very small targets. I started shooting long range with a Leupold Mk4 3.5-10 and took it out past 1000 yards.

Another vote for a Sightron s3. I just picked one of the new models with the zero stop. Love it.
Was shooting with an older ziess conquest 6x20x50, the Sightron is definitely a lot of steps up.

In a FFP in your price range, my current fave is the Athlon Ares ETR. TONS of elevation travel.. add in the reticle and you are good to 2 miles or so... whatever 190MOA will get you.

Glass is really good and is same/better then the SIII's.. and yes, I have run SIII's since they first came out. Tracking on my scopes have been deadly... did some tracking tests with my 308 FTR rig out to 1 mile and it repeated. Recently on my 22 Creedmoor, 40 adjustments, 40 hits.. liking this scope alot.

I am a dealer for Sightron, Athlon and Delta.. all are fantastic products.

pm or email to discuss further

I have the Vortex Viper PST gen 2 5x25 The glass and reticle are great, I have had some issues with the Turrets though and it is currently away for service. So I am looking for a second scope the Nikon looks good. I would like to hear some more feedback on them.
