i am up in the air on a stock for my remington. looking at either a hs precision with the vertical grip, adj LOP, and integral cheekpiece. or the much acclaimed mcmillan A5 with the 3 way butt and either style of cheekpiece. what are everyones thoughts on the 2 designs. the hs is slightly cheaper but has no 3 way butt, and i do all my shooting off the ground so being able to raise the butt is a nice feature. who has what and what works/ is nice to have, also where is everyone buying their stocks from? i realize mcmillan is long delivery so who has either of these creatures in stock? thanks a lot guys.

I have both and w/o a doubt the A-5 beats a H-S hands down in all aspects. It is the most comfortable stock I have used. I ordered mine directly from McMillan.

I bought two synthetic stocks from Brown Precision (California) about 6 years ago. Their service was very good, one in stock, one fast made-to-order. I wasn't real happy with one of them but that was my fault on choice; quality is excellent I loved their silhouette stock but then bought their tactical model for heavier silhouette gun and trigger finger is a bit cramped. Bolt notch didn't allow for adjustment of that at time of inletting.

There shouldn't even be a dilemma as what stock to get. Check out Robertson Composites. They are Canadian, their stocks ROCK and Ian is on the board. Custom colours as per your specs, choose the cheek piece options, length of pull, how mucy you want the stock to weigh, sling swivels, recoil pad etc. Turn around time is decent especially when you consider that these are built one at a time to the spec the customer wants.

Or you could order the HS out of the USA, pay the duty, shipping import and likely take the same amount of time as you would have waited for a custom stock that no one else has that is the exact same as yours.

Hi Steve,

I gotta say, I am quite impressed with Robertson's stocks... even a hair more than the Mac Stocks. They make a phenominal product and as far as I am concerned, a multi-axis adjustable butt is essential in prone shooting!

If the A5 style is simply a must-have, look at the Manners Composite stocks as well. They make a carbon-fiber clone that is outstanding. I have one of their carbon fiber stocks and I am quite impressed.

Ian Robertson is a class act and you won't go wrong with his products.
