Hi
I need some recomedations on what type or kind of Handgun Sight pusher to buy. I want to change the front sight on a new Colt 1911 (dovetailed) and I also need to change the rear sight on a Sig P226.

I have been looking around and there is an outfit in Sask. SRV that makes what looks to be a nice unit. Has anyone on this board heard anything about this model or maybe have used one?

Any other recomendations would be much appreciated.

Thanks Graydog

Hi. I bought the same one a few years back and I'm really happy with it. I've used it to change the sights on a 1911, Glock, and Sig. It worked fine on all of them. I did have to put a washer between the one plate and the bolt to get the spacing right for it to clamp the slide properly. I also always put a little bit of duct tape on the sight so there is no metal on metal contact when pushing the sight.

You can push the sights with the slide on the gun frame but it is so much nicer/easier to work with when you take the slide off the frame.

Thumbs up from me.

Pics are from their web sight. Price is $122

I bought a MGW sight pusher from Brownells. Works very well but for all SIGs beside the 250 I think. I don't think it would work for 1911 though...

Glockstore.com also has a decent sight pusher tool. The price is right and it's pretty simple design. $60 plus shipping.

This guy, Lenny Magill, is hilarious. Lenny and William Shatner should have a debate about something. I'd love to see that!

OK, I changed my opinion on the SRV. I tried to change my sights on my Sig 226. The rear was easy but I couldn't get the front to budge. Because the SRV is made of aluminium, it just folded over as I was using it. At least it is a sacrificial metal as compared to the slide and stock sight. You might want something a little stronger built.

I have 3 MGW's...for Sig, HK, and M&P...they all work great...but expensive considering they're made for a specific handgun. One caveat, when I used the Sig one on the NP22 it couldn't remove the front sight. That norc front sight was like perma-welded in...I ended up beating it out with a hammer and punch (which broke it). Just sayin' for those of you thinking of replacing sights on that Norc (which Sig sights don't fit...but that's another story in another thread).
