Hi all,

I've narrowed my pistol selection for my first handgun down to a few. Please let me know what you guys think

M&P 9mm
Glock 17 9mm (hesitant to choose this, as I know the reliability is great, but the grip feels weird to me)
Ruger SR9
CZ75 P07 9mm

And lastly, i was looking at the Sig 2022, but couldnt find it anywhere. I have shot sigs and like them the most over any gun, and would really like to find this handgun. Does anyone know where in Vancouver carries the Sig 2022 in 9mm? And how much they go for?

Thanks.

Online purchase... I gave up buying things locally, so much easier finding an item in stock elsewhere, usually cheaper too. I'm wondering why this Sig is only $695? P226 is around $950-1000.

I like the 226, cz75. Not sure why you like the short barrelled versions... but it's a personal thing. I hear that the Ruger SR9 is a fantastic bargain for the money, but a Sig is always better.

I heard that the 2022 was cheaper than the 226, thats why I was looking for it. I can't really afford the 226 as local dealers have them listed at ~900 dollars here. The cz75 is nice but I am looking for a polymer framed pistol.

I find, when I skimp right off the bat, it costs me money, as I upgrade and buy the more expensive model after. Don't make the same mistake. Save up your money, look for the best deal and go for it.

If you like the CZ75 you may want to look at the P-07 Duty. Polymer framed and more of a CCW size. The barrel is a little longer in Canada.

The Phantom is a polymer framed version of the SP-01.

The Gen4 Glock fits the hand well if you haven't tried one of those yet.

I bought one SIG Pro SP2022 in 9mm locally - private sale - $700. with 4 original mags, everything in MINT condition....this is one excellent choice for a polymer pistol!
if you have time to wait you can get your hands on a SIG Pro in EE forum...

yeah the glock grips feel wierd to me too. which sucks, because i really like the idea of the glock. but from the pistols you have narrowed it down to, i would go with the CZ.

Everyone recommends a 22lr as a first handgun. I guess it's a good idea, but I got really bored with mine, it's sold.

I think an excellent quality 9mm (one you will keep) is a good first purchase.

I know that .22's aren't all that glamourous but they are a great tool for training a shooter to shoot through the BANG! and kill off flinching. So if it isn't a handgunner's first gun it should be their second in most cases.

Vancouvergunnut, there's not a bad choice in the lot. Buy the one which feels the best in your hand and seems to shoot the most easily without having to constantly adjust your grip.

I trust you've been out to DVC and shot the guns they have? They've got all the guns on your list.

Get there on a quiet night and see if you can have two or even all four at once along with a couple or three boxes of ammo. Nothing will help you decide as well as shooting them one after another.

You'll drop a hundred doing so but you'll come away KNOWING which of the four you shoot the best. And that's not a bad way to go compared to buying a gun only to find out that you didn't like it after all, having to take a bath on it selling the thing and moving on to buy the next one.

If you've ever shot a handgun before, go with either a 9mm or .45. Good way to tell what you want is just go to a shooting range as try out both.

I wouldn't recommend a .22lr for a first handgun though

Ruger SR9. That was my first....

What a overall enjoyment to fire. Feels good in your hands, nice to handle. Also, kinda got alot of attention at the range, the locals were impressed and lined up to give it a whirl, all amazed after sending 10 rounds thru it. Plus, a box of 9mm for $12.50 makes it alittle more affordable to learn the ropes. ;)

Got a Sig P226 E2 which is great. I dare say personnally Sig over CZ for maintenance and take down but that is just me. Recently got a Glock 17 Gen 4 and although Sig grips still superior, the G17 is growing on me. Love the trigger. Choosing a gun ... or two, is like choosing a partner (one at a time) ... very personnal. Good luck.

Only someone who shoots the 300lb da trigger of a sig could love the trigger of a glock!

Feel is not important, fit is

If it fits your hand and the trigger reach is good then buy it :)

this is how your finger should look when firing "the trigger should be on the pad of your finger tip' otherwise your groups will suffer
