I picked up a used Remington R25 from Epps this past week. Not the greatest rifle but it came with a bipod and scope and the $ was right so I decided I would start shooting longer range targets with it and see if I like it.

I have a few mods I want to do to it.

1. Strip it with acetone and repaint it. Leaving most of it black and the rest dark olive green.

2. Modify the trigger as it's the one thing everyone suggests I do.

3. Replace the solid stock with a Magpul PRS.

Question....

I know I need to replace the buffer tube and possibly buffer/spring but I get mixed info on what is the best way to do this. Also some contradiction as to what works best depending on what site I go to.

It's a DPMS AR 10 with Rem's name on it so, can anyone lead me in the right direction here?

I do have an email into Magpul asking for their feedback but thought I would ask here as well.

You're already sporting a rifle buffer and tube on your DPMS, all you need is the PRS itself, the AR-10/.308 version. You don't want the AR-15 model because the cheek riser is longer and the AR-10 has a longer charging handle stroke.

The AR-10 is built by Armalite and the upper and lowers are of different dimensions to a DPMS .308 AR. Magazines are also incompatible as well. While the AR-15 pattern dimensions have been standardized now for over 30 years, the same cannot be said of the large frame AR's (AR-10, DPMS pattern .308 AR, Knights Armament, etc.)

When you get into the large frame AR's, you really need to do the research, because they all seem to be manufactorer specific spec on many of the parts.

The Remington R25 is built for them by DPMS, so it is a .308 AR, making most AR-10 pattern parts uncompatible.

......I know, it's a pain. ;)

Buy the stock, use the tube that came with the gun, put a Timney 4# trigger in, a decent scope and keep your loads applicable for gas gun use and you should be a happy shooter. I know it worked quite well on mine.
