need help for my first handgun

i am going to buy my first handgun soon and i just can't decide witch to buy between a glock17 and a s&w m&p in 9mm.

i have shot the glock and did well whit it (first time i ever shot a real handgun not a airgun or paintball)

i have only handle the m&p but i find it fits my hand so good.

i know from reading a lot that the glock is super ruged and realable
but the m&p is a new handgun so i would like somme inputs from actual owners

If you could, try to shoot a M&P. If it fits your hands it's good but the proof in the pudding is how you shoot it. I've owned both and shot the Glock much better despite the fact that the M&P fit my hand better and had better sights. I sold my M&P9 shortly after I bought it. No regrets.
 
Personally I own a 1911 & a few DA revolvers.

Saying that, I recommend a Glock also for your first handgun.
Calibre your choice, but here abouts, 9mm is the cheapest centrefire by far, if one does not handload ammo.

If it wasn't for my conservative buying habits, I too would own one of these European 9mms.
(I shot a friend's Glock)
My choice, if I did ever decide to buy one, would be that G17. But I am a bullseye shooter for the most part.

M&P hands down! mine has been 100% reliable. It looks good, accurate, ergonomic, comes with great sight and good trigger.

I like Glocks only when I don't have one in my hand; I don't know why people put up with a tool with such poor ergonimics.
 
I bought the M&P after firing both Glock and the M&P.

I like the fact that the M&P has the adjustable hand grips - which is something to consider if more than one person is going to be using the gun (or if you want to take the wife/gf out to the range).

If Glock had come out with a factory adjustable handgrip, it would have made my decision harder.

My only beef with the M&P is getting used to the mag safety - when I am shooting CDP, I have to makes sure that I have an empty mag at the end of the stage to fire the action after clearing my gun. Not a bad thing, just a different routine and after shooting for 17 years habits are hard to change.

Hmmm...Interesting, I too think the same way, Glock is good but not everything. It just lack of refinement and ergonomic. But for same reasons that I really like my G17.

my glock was my first firearm. i will never sell it. as others have said it is easy to clean and disassemble, and even detail strip.

right now the prices are close between the 17 and the M&P. if you can, try to go to a range that has both for you to use and try out. either way, im pretty sure you cant go wrong with either.
