HI guys,

I'm not a pro, but I'm not a newb at AR builds, but I have not ever encountered an issue where I cannot insert a barrel into an upper!

I just got a beauty Colt A2 upper, and I have a colt pencil barrel for a retro build... and the damned thing wont fit!
I had the pencil barrel on a couple of other uppers - tight, but within "normal"

I just cant get this thing in that receiver it is so tight (said no guy on his wedding night...)

Any ideas or work arounds? I don't want to buy another barrel or upper...yet...

Thanks in advance

So if you said your barrel fits into other uppers then it is the upper that is the issue then.

I have encountered similar situation. First I am not gonna doubt your knowledge on the how-to with grease (I used Areoshell from TNA) . I have built a few uppers from scratch myself. Definitely not a pro but I think I have seen enough of the oddballs parts myself. There are upper + barrels combinations (depends on the brands Usually good name brands you won't see this too often but let's not get into the name bashing here.) that the barrel is so loose it almost slips out if I let gravity do its work while there are barrel combination that I had to hit it with a rubber mallet. Don't hit the muzzle (I am sure you know that one) but rather vise the barrel and hit the upper or drill a block of hardwood put it through the barrel, vise the upper and hit the block of wood. Btw it is easier to do vertically than horizontally

You have to think about taking it out as well (just in case) so plan ahead because I always found taking a tight barrel out is harder than hammering it in ;)

Go slow and if something seems impossible may be it is impossible.

Just asking; are you 100% sure both the barrel and receiver are Colt? It would be 'odd' that a Colt upper would be out of spec.......

Thanks guys, so far I also thought about the heating receiver and frozen barrel combo. Lots of lube as well... rubber mallet ready.
I was surprised as hell too that the colt products weren't an instant match... then again they can be years apart in production as the upper is more ancient than barrel.
I have a 0.675 front sight coming... hope I don't have any issues. Worst case the upper gets a 16" carbine barrel and it turns into a LE look-a-like
Let's see which one works best
Cheers
