I have a beautiful Remington 1100 Sporting 12ga that I bought brand new a couple of years back.
Now I want to convert this gun into a deer gun with rifle sights. Basically a copy of my 870 with rifle sights, just semi-auto.
I was able to procure myself an 11-87 20” barrel with rifle sights and I was lucky to find a beautiful and matching MonteCarlo stock …. though very expensive.
The problem that I am facing now.
The 20” barrel with rifle sights fits on the gun, …. and the piston and piston seal seems to be moving freely. However, the forend does not fit ….
It will not slide all the way down .... too much friction ....
After examining the whole thing it seems that the original Target contour barrel that came with the gun is thinner than the 11-87 20” barrel. And my calipers confirmed this. The original barrel measured 0.8555 inches and the 20” barrel measured 0.9355.
Now before I take my wood rasps/files and sandpaper to that beautiful forend … and potentially mess it up …. I wanted to make sure that what I am intending to do will work.
So, the original barrel is a Target contour 28” barrel for 2 ¾ inch shells.
The 20” rifle sighted barrel is an 11-87 barrel … 20” with rifle sights and marked for 2 ¾ and 3” shells.
Both barrels have 2 gas ports and that surprised me a bit.
(I also have an older 28” 3” barrel that I bought a while back but never tried out. That barrel has only one gas port and the forend does not work with that one neither. That barrel measured 09.440.)
The only difference that I can see visually is the “cutout” on the 20” barrel (see picture).
From my research I am coming to the conclusion that this 11-87 barrel should work on my Remington 1100. But I wanted to confirm with the folks on here who have more knowledge with 1100s and 11-87s.
It would be a pity if I mess up that forend .... only to figure out that that barrel does not work on my gun ….

p.s.: I am only intending to shoot 2 3/4 shells out of that gun ....
