Hey guys, need help again haha. I already reload .30-06, .30-30 ans .303 Brit but this Christmas I'm getting a k31 and 480 rounds of gp11

Too bad about gp11 being burden primed but either way I definitely want to reload for this rifle but I'm having trouble finding components. Where do you guys get your stuff? I need everything!

-brass
-dies
-projectiles (is it just a .308)
-any load data you guys are willing to share would be awesome. Don't even know what powder to start with

Any site sponsors carry anything? Haha sorry for all the questions guys, it's just this is the "rarest" round Ive reloaded. Can't just stroll into cabelas and get 7.5x55 brass and dies haha

Thanks,

Tradeex for brass. For dies I ended up going to CH4D in the US. it took them 3 tries to get my order right, though...

Data I can't help with. I've not fired the K31 yet and refuse to until the K11 starts behaving.

i ordered collect dies from lee for mine and have loaded up 15 rounds from the 2 boxes of privi i bought with boxer primed brass. correct it uses .308 diameter, but slug your bore for best results.

also there is pretty much no throat in the rifle, so the 3 bullets i am trying first are seated pretty deep. bullets i used where hornady 150gr FMJBT, winchester bulk 180gr power point, and my cast 150gr lee bullets.

I just decided the same thing! Just got my dies from Titan reloading in the USA ($29 for Lee Deluxe). Budget Shooters has Prvi brass, but call them as it isn't on their website.

Check out swissrifles.com for load data.

Also check bcredneck.com. That's where I picked up my Prvi brass. He still has a few 100 round boxes available.

I'm hoping to do some reloading and shooting this weekend, so I'll post results if they're good/interesting!

Thanks,

I am using Redding dies. They cost more and are worth every penny, IMO. I got brass from Tradex, it is PRVI and excellent quality. Bullets are standard .308" diameter. My Hornady 7th edition manual had loading data, also look at the Swiss Rifles site and posts here from diopter.

The K31 has a very short throat and needs the bullets seated quite deep. I ran into this with my first batch, but it is easily dealt with by testing a dummy round and using that to match OAL to your rifle. Currently I am using IMR4064 powder as I have a lot of it on hand. It has worked well but I think something a bit slower is probably optimum for 7.5x55. Bullets I have used are PRVI 150gr FMJ and Hornady 168gr Amax. This year I may try some SMK 175gr as well, they seem to do well in most everything and are reasonably priced.

I believe the Berger VLD 175gr resembles the GP11 projectile the closest. The GP11, even though berdan primed is very easy to reload, as the primers are simple to remove. Fashion a sharp punch with a bit of a hook, and a couple of taps into the spent primer, then just pry it out. It's very good brass. Find some berdan primers, size .217, and away you go.

One thing to add to this.....

If you can't find 7.5x55mm brass, see if there's any .284 Winchester around. The rim is a bit smaller, but once the neck's expanded its a perfect fit!
This is what I used early on before I found 7.5 brass.

The boat is getting crowded :) I'm also waiting for my Redding dies, Prophet River had the FL set. I saw a guy on youtube reload surplus x39 with boxer primers....all he did was remove the anvil with a little pair of tweezers or something. Of course then he used a dab of super glue to seal the primers in, not ideal I suppose, but in a crunch. I'm curious to see if anything like that would be at all possible with the GP11.

Thanks guys. Found my k31 (Christmas gift) hidden today by my girlfriend. Unfortunately the box was still sealed so I couldn't open it without her knowing haha. I'll definitely be back to this thread after Christmas and I'm all set up ready to reload. Awesome info here!

"...is it just a .308..." Yep. It's one of the many cartridges that give us nightmares due to the name. .308 doesn't mathematically convert to 7.62mm either.
"...remove the anvil with a little pair of tweezers...reload surplus x39 with boxer primers..." That doesn't work. The anvil is part of the case and if you drill a hole, it'll be too big.
7.5 brass isn't that hard to find. Epp's carries it as Schmitd Rubin. Dies and shell holder are likely special order though.
There's 7.5 Swiss data on Hodgdon's site.

Not the anvil on the case, the one in the boxer primer. The point was to reuse a berdan primed case with a boxer primer without altering the case.

Just getting into this myself.

I have both Prvi Partizan 7.5×55 Swiss brass and ammo from Tradeex. I suppose that the ammo is a bit expensive, but I am curious to see what it does. I also have some surplus GP11 that I picked up at Ellwood Epps. They had a couple of the black bulk packs the last time I was there and I bought up all of their "loose" 10-round packs of GP11. I'll be keeping the GP11 brass after it's fired -- CanadaAmmo has Berdan primers available, but I've not ordered any.

Dies are an older Lee 2-die set found at Ellwood Epps -- they seems to work fine. I also ordered a factory crimp die from Higginson Powders.

Bullets are Hornady A-Max .308" 155 gr, Item #30312, with Winchester 760 powder. The load for this is found in the Hornady Handbook 9th Edition. The bullet needs to be set pretty deep to chamber in the K31.

"314299" on YouTube mentioned in a comment that Sierra 175 Matchkings might be a good match for the original GP11 bullet -- see http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ddIv56ms66A

I've yet to fire any of my rounds -- it's been too cold to get to the range. The dummy rounds I've made work perfectly, though :)

Welcome aboard! :) I haven't had a chance to load and fire any live rounds yet either but have assembled everything I need. I went with the Hornady 168gr BTHP. I'm looking forward to getting out and testing, but it will likely be a while yet.

the primers from CanadaAmmo (which are now out of stock) are the wrong size for 7.5x55. they are not tall enough and a bit under powered as they are meant for 7.62x39mm.

you can get proper sized ones from budget shooter here, http://www.budgetshootersupply.ca/frame.cfm?ItemID=545&CategoryID=0

Bought PRVI ammo from Tradeex. Once I have enough empties stockpiled I'll start reloading. Guys say the GP 11 is supposed to shoot better than the PRVI. If it does, I'll be impressed, the K31 seems capable of astounding groupings from my limited experience.
