need help identifying a k98

Hi CGN, I’m seeking the knowledge of some K98 experts on here. I have large font BNZ 44 rifle that I think may be an SS contractor rifle. Only one serial number on the receiver, with one dirty bird and one waffennamt on the right side of the barrel by the rear sight base. Feel free to send me your cell/email and I’ll send some picture. Any help is much appreciated

Look for a double lightning bolt stamp - the SS rune.

That'll tell you if the rifle was made for the SS.

Apparently most "SS" stamped rifles are forgeries.

I spoke to one longtime dealer in firearms and collectibles a while back. He said he seldom buys WW2 German stuff as forgeries are rampant and they are getting better every year. These scumbags troll the collector forums looking for pointers on making "em seem genuine to the point that some experts in the K98 forum will suggest a poster contact them by email regarding things to look for in the genuine article so as not to hand out too much info.
