I recently upgraded my office/gun room (thank you thank you) and was forced to go through my paraphernalia that I have accumulated in the short time I have been reloading. Impressive how quickly that stuff adds up! Anyway, I came across this old round in my ammo storage and I don't know what it is and don't remember where I got it. It's stamped W•W and appears to have an aluminum tip. Any help is much appreciated. Thanks!

Looks like one of the old Winchester "silver tips". I've seen some boxes in older mom-and-pop type stores kicking around; not in .30-30 though (usually 308).

Fabulous things those Silvertips. Blew a ground hog into the next year(entire off side was mush.) with a 220 out of my M1 Rifle(no damage whatsoever so relax. snicker.), long ago.
It's a semi-jacketed, SP, bullet with a thin AL cap. Winchester made an entire line of 'em from wee .25 ACP up to I forget what, but there were several weights of .308" ST's. Had a few .45 ACP ST's. Bought a bunch of 150's and loaded 'em into .308 with deer in mind. Your's might be a 170 or a 150. Real cryin' shame they stopped making 'em. The current Ballistic ST line is nothing like those.
Al is no good for either werewolves or vampires. Geezuz!
