Maybe I should be asking this in the hunting arms forum but it is obviously some sort of Mauser so I came here.

Can anyone help me with this one? Safety is not on the cocking piece so probably from a sporter. Bolt body diameter is 0.692" and recessed bolt face has an impressive diameter of 0.540". Only a few markings (see pictures)and cocking piece is stamped with the same letter E found under the bolt handle.

That one is easy. A pattern 14/17 Enfield, Mauser type bolt. Based on the Handle,cocking piece, shrould designs and the E at the #'s.
The bolt face and front of extractor will tell you if it is P14 .303 or P17 30.06 or........opened up for another calibre.
.540 = .303?

It's serialized, so likely a P14. M1917 bolts are not serialized typically. The Star on the extractor means it's for a MkI* P14, not a MkI.

From size of bolt face, ser#,*, and E it is a Pattern 1914 .303" Enfield bolt made at Eddystone c1916.

The Pattern 14* entered production very early and every standard P-14 that they could lay hands on was converted. Even serial W305 was converted. Original rifles are very rare today; I have seen only one in civilian hands.

Conversion had to do with the LH locking lug. Lotsa fun if you get the bolts mixed up!
