Hi Guys,

I need some help locating a Savage model 10 in 6.5 creedmoor. I have been to the local cabela and wholesale with no luck other the the response your sol. I have done the internet searches for them but nothing.

Any help would be appreciated.

I am hoping to build it into a long range varmit/ paper punching rig.

Otherwise i will look at rebarreling my 10fcp-k.

I ve looked into that route but the cdn dollar is not as strong as a few years ago. Since i plan to build on it id rather keep the initial cost to a mininum as i will be buying stocks and a ai mag conversion.

Anyone know the best option source to rebarrel my 10fcp-k in creedmoor.

seconding what breck said. finding an old top bolt release savage and getting a stock and match barrel in 6.5 cm would be the best way to go about that.

Or look for a Model 11 Predator.

I picked one up in 6.5 Creed back in February. The Pred also has the heavy barrel and it's scope mounted (ok, cheap Weaver glass/mounts) but it was over 200 bucks less than what Gagnon's has the model 10 listed for (the tag on the shelf for the Mod 11 Predator was $759).

So if you plan on "fiddling" with it anyhow, maybe start a few bucks ahead of the game.

I have never loved Savage's website and can't seem to get a good comparison between the mod 10 and mod 11 predators so can't specifically say whether the 10 is worth the 25% premium (???)

I could consider a model 11 with the heavy barrel.

Only real difference between a model 10 and 11 is the model 10 has the accustock and the larger bolt handle and the fluted barrel. Since I plan on a stock anyway that's a non issue. I do like the larger bolt handle but that's easy to swap and I do prefer a fluted barrel but I have access to cnc machines so that I can have done if I feel the need.

Truth be ill probably swap barrels for something in different in 18-20" lenght down the road depending on how the stock barrel shoot.

It's a short action. Its based on the .308 which is why Im interested in it I have about 1200 .308 brass I can use. The .260 is also nearly identical so it's a tough choice between the two but since I hand load I can go either way and I like the Creedmoor.

As for a new barrel off the hop maybe depending on how the stock one shoots. I have found stock savage barrels to shoot sub moa ie. .5 -.75 all day long with the right load. And I'll be honest that's about my level of skill too. I can get sub 1/2 moa on my 308 savage but it's more a fluke but holding it to 3/4moa I can do out to 400yd consintantly. So we will see. If I can hold off on a barrel I can spend more on glass and a stock.

I read in snipershide that howa is going/have made a rifle or barrelled action in 6.5 creedmoor. They are great rifle/action for the money. Personally I would go with the barrelled action and get a stock else where.

Would love just an action. I have looked for a model 10 action with th the right bolt head size, but no luck. I would love to start from scratch on this and build from the action up but I'm coming up empty on the search.

I would start and find a local place that sells howa and from there look online and make some calls. Maybe even contact howa directly. I know there were a few places in the states that were doing group buys so they are being made I think.

No interest in a howa action. I prefer my savages I really like the accutrigger they have. I know remington 700 are good to or even tikka/sako but there not my taste.

I'm still on the hunt for just a cheap savage model 10 in the .308 head bolt for a starter. But I will most likely pull the trigger on a new rifle by next week if I can't find a good donor rifle to start from.
