Hi Everyone,
I have a 4-day weekend coming up, and was planning to head to the Island where my family is and go black bear hunting. I've done this quite a bit, and know lots of good spots, and the best way to hunt bear, and whatnot.
However, this Labour Day we took a trip to northern BC and came back through Lillooet and Pemberton and it looked like pretty amazing hunting and camping along the Cayoosh Creek canyon/valley.
So, I spontaneously decided to take this coming Friday through Monday and go camp and hunt up in the mountains between Lillooet and Pemberton. My brother and cousin will be joining me as well, so I'm looking forward to a great time.
I would really appreciate any advice that the more experienced deer hunters can provide me.
I would really appreciate any info on the following topics from anyone who's experienced in hunting that area...
I know that this all sounds super-noobie, and that's totally fair. If I was just gong for black-bear, even in a new area I'm pretty confident that I'd be just fine, because between my brother and I we've definitely gotten our fair-share of bear hunting and skinning experience. However, going for deer for the first time, my number 1 priority (apart from being safe, of course) is that I'm not doing anything stupid or wasteful with any game I do get, while still trying to make sure my odds of getting my first deer are pretty decent.
Obviously I'd love to take a nice buck, but I'd be totally happy with a decent doe (or even two) to put some meat in the freezer...any advice, suggestions, pointers, do's and don'ts or anything else you've got is very appreciated.
Thanks in advance,
Jon

A) Both Blacktail and Whitetail bucks are open in the MU's we'll be hunting, as will Whitetail antlerless. Which are we most likely to see and which should I get a tag for?
B) What are the recommendations if we're successful getting a deer? Is there a good game butcher in the Pemberton/Whistler area? (I live in Burnaby, so would prefer to go to someone on this side, rather than towards Pemberton.)
C) I haven't taken a deer before, and I've always preferred to learn by going with someone and observing first-hand, before trying myself. (That's hw I learned to hunt bears.) Unfortunately, that's not an option due to timeframe, so I'm watching lots of videos online and researching lots of stuff on what I should do as far as skinning, hanging and quartering, but I'm kinda confused on the best method/approach. What is the best advice that you've got for someone brand-new to deer-hunting?
D) Bonus question: is there anything else that's good to hunt in this area (waterfowl, grouse, rabbit, etc.) and if so, any recommendations for spots/hunting method?
