OK I have a new project, I just bought a CZ 527 carbine in 7.62x39, love the little thing. Now I want to put together an optics package for it. So far, been considering a Leupold 4X (have an M8 handy) as the base point, but ideally I want a BDC package and perhaps a 1.1-4X range ala S&B police or a fixed 2.5X with some sort of ranging recticle that will allow holdovers on short notice, even if not exactly intended to (like a mil dot style). In fact, a fixed 2.5X with a useful recticle would be ideal. And what's out there in the Mk4 series for low power optics? How about a BDC cam from Leupold being made up for a couple of my loads, any experience there? :)

Thanks a bunch! This optics package has to be TOUGH as well, as it's a work rifle.

I to have been thinking of something similar for my Ruger M77 mk2 7.62x39. I was thinking of a Leupold VXII 1-4x with a custom reticle installed to match the load.

BDC... eh?
I like them. I got an IOR, but I also flirted with a kalinka posp series, with the 3.5 WWII repro being my forst choice.

I chose IOR because I had money at the time and the glass is awesome.
There are some ways to make your own BDC cams by buying the "target knobs" and mark them dead on what you need.
I have one question though,,,, why on 7.62x39?

Many ppl have a problem understanding bullet trajectory. One sure thing to educate them is to get a 7.62x39 tracer and fire it @ 500m.
Demoralizing..... you get my drift?

I shoot wildcat rigs of my own design out to 1500 yards, so I'm somewhat familiar with trajectories and ballistics ;) :p 7.62x39 as this is my work carbine, and that's the ammunition that's plentiful where it's going, it's a light round with light recoil but fantastic terminal effects with SP's on bare targets. It is also easily capable of 500 yard shots out of a bolt action. :)

Lists on that site for 749 US, but if you try Peter at hirschprecision.com, he may (or not) do better.

No probs.

FWIW, I generally agree with 'get what you pay for' but in this situation there may be more to it.

In the film biz, Optar (russian) lens sets that sell for $8K US a set, rival Zeiss lens packages that cost $50K+, and are often used interchangably.

There's no doubt that Russians know Optics, and can sell quality glass for a LOT less than Western companies.

All said generally, as I have no experience with these scopes.

Cheers.
