I'm going to be reloading magnum case and my book I use says nothing about using magnum primers. I am going to be reloading 300 winchester magnum and the book say "large rifle primer" and 357 magnum and the book says "small pistol primer" But when I look up primers there are large rifle magnum primers and small pistol magnum primers. Which should be used or will there be a difference?

If the load you're using doesn't specifically call for mag. primers, you're OK to use non-magnum. If the book says large rifle primer, use large rifle primer.

I'm using the Richard Lee Modern Reloading 2nd edition. It says nothing anywhere to use magnum primers when it says what primer so will it be ok in the 300 magnum? Do you think starting with the starting point charge it would be alright with the magnum primers? Thanks!

Stony, that rule usually applies but the Lee manual doesn't ever specify whether to use magnum or regular primers, as far as I know...

I've learned that primer use is a function of the powder, not the cartridge. Generally speaking, use magnum primers when loading ball powder. When loading .357Mag, for example, I only use magnum primers when loading with H110/296.
