I have narrowed it down to a couple of things. I know I want 4.5-14x40mm and am leaning strongly to leopold vxIII (only because I am very happy with my other leopolds) the only problem is I like the LR redical, mildots or tactical millets none of which I can find in the VXIII's. I was hopeing not to go up to a mark 4 because I am not conviced that they are that much better for the money. (please someone tell me why they are and I might change my mind) the shooting I will be doing is 100-300yards maybey out to 500 but not any time soon. I also do more target shooting than hunting but I want to stil be able to hunt with it and not be limeted to just a target scope.
Oh ya and the gun it is going on is a remington 700 sps tactical 223.
I curently have a VX1 3-9x40 on it know but need to put something better on it. it is one capable gun I just need the glass to get there.

any help and advice is appritiated.
and yes my shooting is better than my spell;)ing

Try a Zeiss Conquest.

Check out the varmit hunters reticle on the leuy, probably will line up with your 223 and should get you out to 500 yards or so. It has wind drift markings in it too for 10 and 20 mph winds.

Check out the vortex line. I have a enty level model and like it. Everyone seems to be saying that the higher model ones are as good or better that the Leupolds at a better price.

X4 on the Vortex line. I just picked up the 3x9x40 Diamondback with BDC. It's the mid-line of their products and I am impressed all beat to hell with the clarity of the optics, the function of the adjustment knobs and the fit and finish of the scope.

If any warranty work is required, the scope will not have to be sent to the manufacture in the US but is handled via the Canadian distributer in Ontario. The warranty should also be considered "bullet proof" (No I do not work for Vortex).

I was able to see the complete line of scopes, bino's, spotting scopes at the last Sportsman's show in the Lowermain land of BC and found all there products up to a standard that meets or exceeds most of the "classically" high-end scopes at a much better price range.

I can only suggest you get to a shop that has Vortex and the other lines of scopes you are considering and do a side by side comparison. I believe you will see why I recommend Vortex for the type of shooting you will be doing.

thanks guys, I will consider the other selections but am I right in thinking that the mark 4's are over priced because they are tactical or are they that much better than the vx III's?

thanks

I would go with a Zeiss Diavari in 5-15x42, I have one on my styer scout and it is much clearer than my leupolds. I'm not sure what you want to spend, knowing that would make the decisions easier.

thanks for all the replies guys, I just bought a leopold mark4 4.5-14x40mm long range with milldot rectical and 30mm tube. originally this was more than I wanted to spend at $1250 but I found it at $875 brand new taxes in at the old price :dancingbanana:

The Mark 4s are certainly overpriced, when you consider that a Nightforce NXS is much more scope but doesn't cost that much more.

i figured for $875 it wasn't a bad choice. But I would agree that $1200 is over rated probally. I will let you guys now what I think once I get it.
