Hey guys, I'm putting a vertical foregrip on my franken AR and need some input. I want something very durable, but not big and bulky. I was mostly looking at getting a shorty vert grip from CAA, but I'm not too pleased with the durability of their buttstock...

Any help is appreciated, thanks
 
I typically only use KAC (they are free to replace here) here and one my guns in Canada and the US.
I dont like to put stuff in the front since it adds weight to my 14lb carbine ;)

In that case, get a AAC, same as the KAC, same plastic and insert, BUT you can remove the plug to screw the grip so its flush... u can use an allen key or the plug and a coin to tighten !

Got any pics of the AAC? Haven't seen that one before...at least I don't think so! :)
 
I ended up with a TD grip but....what i originally wanted was the TDI SVG (short vertical grip) they are a bit shorter then most and look pretty shart imo. Im not sure about the durability tho. Now that i think about it is TDI and CAA the same company? maybe its the same grip.

Mr. Dremel - or a sander - and flatten one side.

In the early OEF and pre OEF days it was common place to run a section of inner tube on the KAC grips to secure the pressure switch.

Unfortunately MOST of the KAC grips in Canada are Airsoft knockoffs. Even the real ones break with rough usage.

I've used KAC, TD, Dieter and a few others (even a grippod for a bit).

I find the contour of the Tango Down grips dont fit me right - and the Deiter was too heavy and transmitted a lot of heat down the shaft.


I have a few broken KAC grips in my junk drawers - I am planning on cutting one down - and making a different mounting setup for it.

Thanks for the input guys, looks like I'm going to have to track down a TD stubby. I was hoping Magpul would have released a VFG using the MIAD concept, but I suppose they already have way too many other projects to deal with.
 
Just get a regular TD grip and chop it down. This is what I did. I cut along the first ridge form the bottom. I then used contact cement to attach the bottom plug to the grip. It takes about an inch off the bottom. I used to carry extra Surefire batteries in there, but again dumped them to save weight on teh front end.
Although I do not like the Airsoft stuff, there is a TD copy out there that you can get from Ebay for about $20 US. That way if you don't like it, you can dump it.

In terms of comfort when using with gloves, I like KAC the most since I have small hands. I also start to sway away from storing #### to save weight.

TD is a good choice, it's a bit beefier than the KAC; The dual spring adjustment system takes a little to get used to. The first batch of stubby was a straight cut down with the bottom glued back on. I believed TD saw the demand for them and since made a new one with a proper bottom screw cap; But the storage capacity is limited to pretty much just one CR123, which I found is quite pointless. I am not sure if the new stubby is out in the market yet though.

The one that I do want to try is the BOBRO grip. Rainier Arms has them. It has a QD like attachment system.
 
B-wingpilot, maybe instead of putting a grip on the G36AR, you should throw one on that shotgun-pistol contraption...

End side-note.

May our veterans continue the KAC/TD debate :cheers:
 
GT -- tighten yoru KAC up once in a while ;)

I run one at work -- I ensure everything (inc my loctited Larue mounts) is tight when I clean the gun.

IMHO a QD vert grip is not needed.
