Want to purchase my first bolt rifle. Now torn between Ruger American Ranch and CZ 600 Alpha, 7.62 and 5.56.

Mostly for target shooting, probably never go out hunting. Just want a reliable rifle shooting cheap ammo. Any comments on either rifle? Will 7.62 be always cheap as right now?

Thanks very much!

The Ruger is OK but the CZ is going to be a better overall quality gun with a better trigger. Money well spent IMO

Tikka, or CZ as others have mentioned are what you should get.

Understand that "target shooting" and "cheap ammo" should never be used together though. At least if its out to any distance. If not reloading, factory match grade is considerably more $$ than surplus. And also, ammo is "as cheap" right now as it was even 1yr ago. It will always get more expensive.

What one person's idea of " target shooting" is not automatically another's .
I know many people who have rifles they call target rifles that are nothing like what I would consider a target rifle , because I shoot match rifles .
Some people consider 500 meters long range and the cheapest .234 ammo in any rifle is capable of hitting a 24" gong at 500.
That is okay for some and I suspect this is what the OP is looking at . Something for shooting targets from 25 to say, 500 meters, not an actual match quality rifle for competing.
