This shell is 24 inches long, has a 5 3/4 inch circumference around the rim and 3 1/2 inches at the other end where the round use to be attached. The markings on the bottom are; 20 Pr Mk 2 Lot 23 RLB RW18 1947 OF. The removable primer area is marked; 17 Mk2 CY 55 2/49 CD 48 RML. I am trying to find out what it is, where it was used, history, value, etc. Any help is appreciated.

I've seen these before . 20pdr QF gun on the Centurion tank .

Canada adopted the Centurion in 1951 , so this is probably British mfg ammo . If I'm understanding the primer info right it was reloaded in 1949 .... I think .

How much is it worth? Find the other seven artillery shell collectors in Canada, and ask one of them if they need another one. You'll have it a long long time.

I'm going to go out on a limb here and guess that you meant to say 5 3/4" DIAMETER, rather than CIRC. Same for the 3 1/2 " mouth.
If so, 3 1/2" works out to about 85 mm. And the 24 " length would be about 610mm.
Now go to http://www.quarry.nildram.co.uk/ammotables.htm and you wil see a listing for 84 x 618 R (the R is for Rimmed) that says UK made, 1950's vintage 20 Pounder Tank gun, for the Centurion III tank.

Glad to help.
That site is by a guy named Anthony Williams. He has a book called Rapid Fire, about all sorts of machine guns and cannons. Good stuff.
