Hi everyone, I have a question about building a target rifle.

I like the MDT Tac 21 chassis and was hoping to build a target/plinking rifle based in that chassis. My questions are...how hard would it be to source a tikka t3 barrelled action, how hard is it to install such an action into the MDT Chassis. I can not find anyone that sells tikka barrelled actions so I guess I would have to purchase the rifle and just remove the stock? Also the build will be in .223. Are there better options out there for stock and action etc? I want to keep this cost effective so I am not going to get into custom high end expensive actions.

Tikka's are very nice. They are amongst the better rifles out there that are still normal factory rifles. Another option is Bergara. They are basically Remington 700 clones but better quality.

Do you know if you want a conventional style stock like what the T3X comes with, or a chassis? MDT makes most of their chassis with a Tikka inlet. Wildcat Composites in Edmonton also makes some nice hunting style stocks. KRG also does a chassis, along with Cadex. Lots of options out there.

Also, a rough budget would be helpful.

I've never dealt with them, but from what I've seen they put out nice work, R.P.S. International, also in/near Edmonton I believe often has Tikka actions for sale.

Definitely the MDT Tac chassis and thanks for the help!

Tikka is a great way to go! I really like mdt chassis but the tac is going to be a heavy beast. Also check out the ess. It can have a fully enclosed rail but the action is not. All you need is a torque wrench and 5in for the install.

Awesome thank you and I do want to keep it light so I’ll check out the ess!
