Need help with bcl 102 barrel nut removal.

I can’t seem to get it to release. Which piece does the wrench attach too? The wider piece with grooves and screw holes...or the smaller piece that is grooved and goes into the larger piece.

The smaller nut is removed with an 1 3/8 wrench or large adjustable wrench. Both of the factory installed barrel nuts that I have removed came off quite nicely.

I'm not sure why anyone would use a hammer to remove this. Or how it would be reinstalled with a hammer.

I can’t get the barrel nut off to save my life...it’s like it’s seized on there. Or I’m doing it wrong.
But the hammer and chisel didn’t work and neither did an adjustable wrench.

Can someone post a step by step so I can see if I’m doing it right

With the barrel extension tool in place I just twisted the entire 2 piece nut off using a large adjustable wrench on the smaller part.

Reinstallation is the reverse.

I found that the nut under the barrel nut shown above with the screw driver had to be loosened first. the barrel nut bridges two separate threads, I think one on the upper and the other between the barrel nut and the barrel. Loosen or remove this one first and the barrel nut should come off easily. I had tried both the hammer/screwdriver AND a pipe wrench. both are ugly solutions and figured there must be a reason these threads are so tight. I think the nut under the barrel nut I think is the one that uses the 1-3/8 wrench.

I think they both came off at the same time... the whole process was painless for me though; unlike other accounts.

I don't know but maybe try slightly heating the larger nut with a propane torch.

Are you keeping the barrel nut? If obscene force, then plentiful heat (350 degrees at least to melt loctite) don’t work I would cut it with a zip disc be it a dremel or die grinder down to the base of the internal threads then split it with a chisel if it still won’t come off. I had to do this to the muzzle device on my Troy PAR to get it off. You must be meticulous though and proficient with the ol slicer.

I used Kroil and froze it over night before using a pipe wrench. I'm assuming you have the upper in a vice?

Need to put in vice, then grab the Outer nut, then loosen the inner nut off.

if your a hulk, pipe wrench one hand and other crescent wrench

Are you using the barrel extension tool? As long as you are just use a bigger wrench to get more leverage. It's really very simple. My wrench is probably close to two feet long.
