Okay, I know nothing about these rifles. Had one fall into my possession and I know there are alot of experts here on CGN. Can you guys tell me what I now own.

I tried to take pics of the engravings but my camera could not focus up that close, so here are the descriptions

band around the stock on right side:
"pic of a Crown"
"Enfield"
"1917"
"S" can't make out next letter, then "LE"
"111*"

Band on left side:
"ENGLAND"

Right side of bolt:
"U" engraving

Left side of action before barrel:
"Pic of a crown"
"BNP"

another pic of crown
"GR"
pic of crossed flags
"P"

On top of barrel
"*"

Came with a 5 shot mag and a 10

Thanks in advance you guys.

You have a sported SMLE Mk.III* made at Enfield in 1917. The "England" stamp was applied for commercial export. I think the * on the barrel indicates some bore wear.

Thanks guys. This is the site to ask for sure. Woodchopper, did you want to see anything in particular? Or just pics from all angles showing the whole rifle. I will take some more and post on Thursday when I am back at work for you

just an overall picture of the rifle to see if there are missing parts, then a close up of reciever from both sides, bolt open. Usually all the interesting markings are found on the reciever and top of the barrel knox.

Here are a few more woodchopper. As I mentioned before I tried to get better pics of all the markings but my camera has a long focal length and all the markings won't be clear. Everything is fuzzy up close. But the rifle has a ton of markings. Some on top of each other. as well I guess it was tested at one point or rated for a certain pressure by the markings on it as well. Looking for any particular marking? And it was a ShtLE. Nice work. You know your stuff.

DW: Everything is fuzzy up close.

What type of Camera are you using?

Most digital cameras have an auto focus preset...hold button half way down until pic box on screen turns red etc...also closer shots require lots of light, and steady hands.

A Fuji s5000. Has more features than I know what to do with. I was using an auto focus, I will check the manual at home. Has a 10x optical and 2.2digital. Great for wildlife shots at a distance but so far for markings on a rifle not so good. I will play with the manual and see if it's just me. Would not be the first time

You should have a macro setting on that camera. That will give you great closeups of the markings.

Hate to say it but I don't see any pictures, no little boxes with red x nothing.

It might just be me and my firewall :(

Oh, I took a look at the page again and the 8 pics are there for me. Try again. If you want you can send me your email in a PM and I can send them directly to you.

Thats funny, you could see the original pics though. Hosted at the same place. Weird......anyway, I can send them directly to you if you want, just PM the email address. You seem to be the guy who knows his enfields, wouldn't mind you taking a look at the markings to fill me in.

Yes, I see the pictures just fine.
Consider getting the full wood stock the rifle orginally came with.
(If the others say the rifle is complete.)

It's been to South Africa going by the property mark.
Missing parts?
Forend
Nosecap and screws.
front and rear handguard.
Mid barrel band, screw, and swivel
rear handguard retaining ring
Wrong safety spring but serviceable for use.

The HV indicates the sight has been calibrated for Mk7 ammunition and the SC (short cone) the chamber has less lead since the Mk7spitzer bullet has a different shape than the Mk6 round nose one.
the rest of that is proof and inspection marks. It appears to have two broad arrows facing each other point on, which would be a sold out of service mark.
