need help with fixing pmags

Now i don't want this thread to turn into a arguement like the last one. So hopefully lets keep this clean

Im looking for some help or advice.
I meet some one with some pmags for sale all pinned at the spine of the mag.
Only problem is when he let me try them out they all load more then 5 rnds. All of the mags seem to be pinned at the same location but all 5 mags hold a different amount of rnds. Now my question is, if i buy these mags off him, how will i fix these so their legeal. Drilling and repinning them is not a options as the new hole would be overlapping the previous hole resulting in a loose pin.
I have thought of the mag block idea as mentioned in the previous thread. But with this idea, and no definte answer, will this method land me infront of a judge if stopped?

I was thinking of leaving the existing pin in the mag and adding the mag block in as well. Would this idea work?
Any help would be appreicated.

Use the longer pop rivet that is the same size (the part that expands inside the mag)


On the inside, have a small pcs of rectangular steel or AL with a hole in it so that it can be pop riveted on the inside against the mag body. Offset it enough so that the follower stops in the right place.

I can sketch up what I mean if req'd.

This is a good idea. There are thick washers for rivets you can buy, I got some at Canadian Tire along with rivets when I needed to rivet something and needed more reinforcement.

My P-mags have the opposite problem....pinned too tight. They barely hold 5 rounds, they can only hold 4 if I want to chamber the first round with the charging handle.

Patman 18: I just ran into the same problem but not with PMags. My solution was also much better than the way mine were originally pinned as the rivet now won't scratch the magwell of the gun.

I inserted a 1/8" thick aluminum strip the width of the spine (about 2" in length) into the mag and simply moved the rivet lower down the mag body so that it would not enter the magwell. Think of something that looks like a popsicle stick with the hole for the rivet towards one end of the stick.

You simply decide where you want the hole in the mag body, drill it, cut the strip to approximate length to reach the follower at the right height and also extend past the rivet hole (no need to be too precise here). Insert the strip to the right height to stop the follower at the right spot, mark the hole on the strip using the hole in the mag body as your template, and then simply drill the strip. Insert strip into body and then rivet through the mag body to complete the install.


This same solution may allow you to fix your problem and move the rivet hole to an entirely different part of the mag body and the bonus is you don't scratch your magwell, and you don't have to file the rivet.

Small adjustments can then be done by removing and filling the strip and then rivet again if needed.

Does this make any sense?

Thats actually the idea i had after seeing the drawing from Matt.
But turns out i figured out the problem.
The rivet is in the right spot, but too short. So the follower would just slide over the rivet and stop on the top edge of the follower.
All i need to do is put a longer rivet in it.
