Need Help With Gun for US Training!

OK. I sold my AR and still want to train stateside (Tactical Response) and was hoping to go to a different platform.

I WAS going VZ58 but I just heard from a source that the receiver is the same as the full auto version and the ATF will class it as PROHIBITED and is therefor a no go as a training gun.

I already know the Norincos are out due to being Chinese in origin.

Anyone else have a non AR platform suggestion for a semi auto rifle/carbine that I can get across the friggin border?

Email them, they have rental guns AK47 or AR-15, not sure about the AK74 right now. You can also rent Glock pistols. There is a rental fee, but you'll be better off then spending a small fortune on a new gun. Also, you get to shoot an evil AK. Renting also avoids the minor hassle at the border.

Damn...I was hoping for something I could own.

I want to pre-train on it rather than waste time in class learning to run the gun.

Got it. The VZ and AK are similar enough to make the transition easy. Of course the safety on the AK takes a little getting used to, for most right handers. The mag release is also located better on the AK. The VZ is lighter.

Given the subtle variations and constant changes in US/Candian gun legislation, there probably isn't a perfect solution. If you like the VZ, an AK won't be much of an adjustment.

If you do a little networking you might find someone in the US willing to lend/rent you a VZ. They're not a very common rifle down there, but that would solve your re-training issue.

They haven't stopped me the last two trips.

I got rid of the AR because it costs too much too feed and a buddy needs one to start his training.

I also want to learn a different platform. AR's are great but they aren't the only stick in the woods.

Don't worry bro, whatever I buy, it will be getting that Duracoat I got you to buy for the M14.

I take my SL8 to the US once in awhile. I know they're a little pricey but you can score a good deal on the EE here sometimes.

Mini 14 would be another suggestion.
