I Just ran into a problem with my Stag Arms 2T which comes with a Samson Star C Quad Rail. I want to remove the front sight post (and use a front flip sight) so my EOTech holo sight is no obstructed.

Unfortunately in my ignorance of the AR-15 platform I did not realize that the front sight post is also the part of the gas system and not easily removed. After doing a lot of searching on CGN and AR15.com I have found a few solutions but I keep coming back to the same problem. How do replace the gas block system and keep the Quad rail hand guard I have with out my gun looking like a Frankenstein project?

Here are the solutions I have found but may or may not be workable:

1)Remove the front sight and gas block and replace it with a gas block and has a picatiny rail on top. This is not my first choice in terms of looks, however it looks better than most of the DIY projects I have seen. This video shows what I mean more or less. http://www.brownells.com/.aspx/lid=10347/guntechdetail/Changing_A_Gas_Block

2)Completely replace the barrel with a new one that hopefully the gas system is covered up with the rail system I have. Possibly the most expensive solution to my problem and I still don't know if this would work. Would the barrel have to be shorter than my current 16” and does such a low profile gas system exist? Would a low profile gas system be retro fit able to my current barrel? Here is a picture of what my or may not be what I need (not necessarily the barrel but the gas system.) http://www.brownells.com/.aspx/sid=52526/sku/Mid_Weight_Barrel_w_low_profile_aluminum_gas_block

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Your problem is the rail system. Stag rifles have either carbine length gas or rifle length. Yours is a carbine length gas and the rail system is also carbine length. The solution is to run a LONGER rail system, one designed for a midlength or even a rifle length rail system in conjunction with a low profile gas block. The low profile gas block is self explanatory and the longer rail covers said gas block eliminating the front sight base.

The cheap solution. Don't worry about it. Your EoTech is supposed to be shot with both eyes open and the front sight base becomes a non issue.

Questar, Fabsport and Alberta Tactical all have low profile gas blocks, so there is no need to replace the whole barrel just for a front sight.

You don't have a problem to begin with, the EOTech is not obstructed by the front sight post when in use. You may have to get a riser mount for it but that's it. The solutions you are proposing are not necessary and a waste of money.

See those two pins under the gas block/front sight? Punch those out and the gas block will slide right off the barrel. Buy a low-profile gas block. Swap the gas tube over to the new gas block and install the whole thing onto the barrel. Easy peasy. Should take no more than 15 minutes.
