I am looking at buying a remington 597, the ad reads this:

Free-floated 20" Carbon-steel barrel with lightweight alloy receiver that is grooved for tip-off scope mounting and drilled & tapped for Remington traditional 1" Dovetail bases

I have no idea about rings or bases, so could someone help me out here? It's going to be a rimfire scope of some kind just not sure what I need to see in the description of the rings to make sure they will work with that rifle.

Thanks.

The 597 has integral dovetail mounts. All you need are rings that will fit an 11mm dovetail. Optionally, you can buy a base that will fit over the dovetail, allowing you to use standard, Weaver style rings.

If you were looking for first hand experience, then ignore my post. I just did some searching and found that information. I believe it to be accurate, though.

I beleive it too, found some better descriptions of the rifle and the rings that come with the Tasco 3-7x20 scope, looks like a match to me... if not guess i'm out 29.95 for my el cheapo scope.

what will be your main use of the rifle.invest in a rimfire scope with 1 inch tube and at least a 32mm objective lens.the little 20mm objective scopes do not draw enough light in low light conditions and most of them look like someone used steel wool to clean the lens when you look thru them.you can get a set of 1 inch rings that fit right on the dovetail at most shops that sell scopes.
