I field stripped the M-14 cleaned an reassembled.

Now I am worried about thing the connects the barrel to the Gas Plug. It is lose if I try to tightnened then I can only do a half revolution around the barrel is this a problem.

Also I saw that I am supposed to grease the rifle what type of grease works best and where should I grease it.

thanks

Jason, are you talking about that thingy that sort of looks like a "figure-8"?
If so, it just needs a shim, or series of shims.
As for grease, any high quality chassis and bearing grease. I like moly greases, personally, just make sure that the firing pin and its bore stay dry.

Check the Main Battle Rifles FAQs. Skullboy has the answers to both of your questions in detail. About 1/2 way through he tells you how to shim the gas cylinder and toward the end he describes lubricating. Good stuff.

You may also flip the Gas lock "Figure 8" over and try it that way ,sometimes one side fits a little tighter than the other . I have found this to work extremely well sometimes as does a BOX of gas locks to try one at a time until you get one to fit tight !
It is a much better idea to shim it and be done !

Note that while the condition you describe is undesirable for accuracy, it isn't a big deal for reliability unless you're having failures to eject.

Any good quality grease will do. I use Lubriplate, which is what's actually specced for the rifle, but that's because I snagged it free from work. :)

Any place where there's parts rubbing together should be greased. If you see any places where the finish is wearing off, pay extra attention there.
