Hi, I have a deact :puke: FN which I have been told is an Indian/Ishapore model.

I took some photos of it and posted it on my site here. http://www.pbase.com/mrclark/fn_fal_

Is it in fact indian? Anyone know the history of this piece.

Also I want to try to clean the gun up and replace the wood and or restore it.

I have a line on a mint C.A.L FNC1 walnut stock and perhaps handguards will they fit my FN?

Apparently the FNC1 stuff and the indian stuff is inch anyone know if this is true and should fit?

Also on the FNC1 was all the wood walnut, handguards, pistol grip etc etc?

Thanks in advance

i think you are better off to restore the wood on your ishapore 1A1 than replacing the wood with C1A1 funiture, it will look kinda odd a rifle mainly ishapore with only canadian furniture.

while both the C1A1 and the ishapore are inch pattern, C1A1 has many distinct features . long time ago, i had a C1A1 clone where by all the parts that are distinct were replaced on a australian L1A1 .

1. c1a1 handguard will fit but c1a1 butt may not cos 1A1 uses a metal ferrule while c1a1 uses a tang screw.
2. c1a1 furniture are all dark walnut, the only plastic is the carrying handle(late style).

hope that helps.

The parts between a Ish and a C1 are not directly interchangeable for the most part.
The handguards will require the C1 screw, since the Ish screw has a different head.
The butt will haveto be trimmed to fit onto the tang of the Ish receiver. You can replace the whole lower trigger housing (receiver) bt it won't fit that well either.
Then you also have to find the Cdn buttplate (held on with one screw through the stock retaining nut, instead of two wood screws like an Ishapore) and Cdn sling swivel (interchangeable with the Enfield rifles).
Of course, you will need to find the Cdn rear sight (I have some to spare) and the Cdn Carry handle.

After all that, you still have an Ish in sheeps clothing. C1s still show from time to time for around the 1k mark.....better investment to pick up one of those. Seems to me Collectors source has one right now with the Leitz scope, for just a bit above 2K.

Here is my Ishy in Canadian clothing. IIRC 8 Canadain pieces. I couldn't butcher the mint C1A1 stock to fit.

let me guess which 8 canadian pieces....

1.Hg 2.butt 3. top cover 4. rear sight 5. sling 6. combo tool 7. bolt carrier .... thats all i can see , which is the 8th? maybe the hidden bolt?

you know steppenwolf , you are so close to completing your clone you should finish it.

all you need are the buttplate , rear swivel , bolt stop (optional) , carrying handle (brown plastic) , pistol grip and the locking catch lever (short type) ...then you are done.:dancingbanana:

I put the Canadian Forestock on my Ishy. The inside of the Canadian Wood needed to be shaved down a little bit to fit. Also, I turned down the screw head to fit (just with a file and drill + Cold blue). I fitted a Canadian pistol grip without problems. I left the buttstock as is. With the price of Canadian furniture going up and up, you might want to consider replacing with someother cheaper wood and sell.

Arctic trigger and trigger group. I am so glad I have an FN Fal, the ###iest assault rifle ever made. It is as close as I will get to owning a Canadian rifle. Even though I can't fire it just fondling it gives me pleasure:)

Its nice they trust you with that and not me. Just be careful, those things have a tendency to 'take control' make people do funny things. :p

*sigh* wish I had one.....:(

Ishies are BOTH inch pattern AND metric. Keep in mind they were REVERSE engineered from samples sent to them for a prospective purchase from FN.
Thats why inch pattern parts sometimes fit and sometimes don't.

India said they coulkn't afford the royalties and having FN set up the production line.
After that little fiasco on the border with the Chinese, they simply copied the FAL and said they "invented" a new rifle for the Indian army. FN was NOT amused.

I almost bought one but ended up spending the money on a stupid course that I never used anyhow.

Thanks for the info folks, by the way anyone know of a place I can get new Ishy wood?

I think I will pick up the canadian wood anyhow just because I know its a steal.

according to your pic , the HG & buttstock are in good shape, the dents can be steam ironed out, only the PG needs replacing.

if you are not gonna use the c1a1 HG and you would like to sell it then PM me.

I dont think these nasties can be steamed out, the one big one to the right is pretty deep. Do you think there fixable?

Your handguards appear to be early BSA from the markings??

Ya I thought something was up there with the dates and the difference in wood type

I bought my Brit L1A1 for $200.00 way back from Century before they left the country.
Ya they had lots and lots of them at 2 bills. And notice the comment about magazine availability... Dec 31, 1992, FAL 20 round mags were just chunks of tin. At midnight, they became evilbabykilling assault magazines which were instantly prohibited.

And that Santa Barbara ball ammo they had was pretty good stuff too!

That forend is actually not bad looking...way nicer than what was on my long ago Ishy...no matter how much you spend on the Ishy it'll still be an Ishy...maybe wait for a real C1 to appear?
