Need info. on a Lakefield 64B

I've been in the gun trade for nearly 20 years, and I must disagree with you, The Cooey is a blowback operated rifle that fires from a closed bolt. Open bolt would mean it would have to be to the rear, and released when fired (i.e Gevarm, Sterling, etc...). Not sure where you got this knowledge from, but I'm afraid your theory is technically wrong.....

you have to understand the principle behind an open bolt.

What separates firearms that fire from the 'open bolt' as opposed to closed bolt is whether or not the round is chambered before or after the trigger is pulled. The BREN, Sten, Sterling, Gevarm, MG42 all fire from the open bolt. Pull the trigger and the bolt/breachblock rushes forward, chambers the round which then fires (sometimes even before it is completely chambered, as a matter of design), then the bolt retracts and ejects the case and if the sear is in position will catch the bolt.

While the Cooey/Lakefield/Savage 64 will probably work with the bolt and striker fixed together, you would essentially have a fixed firing pin which could fire a round prematurely if it encountered resistance during the chambering phase, which would neatly explain the ruptured Stinger you experienced.
