Hi! There

I was wondering if anyone has owned a Marlin Model 57 Royal Canadian 22.
What I realy to know is Why is it called a Royal Canadian and when did they start and stop making them.;)

"...Why is it called..." Marketing. Possibly for sale in the old Canadian K-Mart etc. 34,628 Model 57's were made between 1959 and 1965.
 
Marlin Royal Canadians

I had a Marlin mod 57 22 mag. myself at one time but sold it. I'll give you some info about it quoting from the "Marlin Firearms" book by Lt.Col. Brophy. Marlin started the program in 1961 to try and expand the Canadian market. They roll-stamped the markings to 9 different models. They only did a total of 180 model 57m's. They were sold to Canadian distributors and dealers. However, many are found in the U.S. The Canadian Govt. did not like it as they felt it could erroneously suggest a royal approval or falsely suggest a connection with the R.C.M.P. Marlin decided to discontinue the program and remaining inventory was sold in the U.S. I wish I hadn't sold mine! Cheers, Don.
