There were a very limited number of proper Canadian gunmakers in the past. One dealer I know who trades Canadian antique guns and swords is John Denner in Alexandria On. His wife is Sam Denner, and she sells books at the gun shows. John advised me one time when I desperately had to have a restored Hudson Bay Trade gun - not worth the price for a rebuild.

cc meredith

I have owned a couple of Mr Merediths rifles, and handled probably a half dozen more. one I owned a small Farquason action in 22 R Lovell shot superbly, and another one on a Winchester Hi Wall also in 22 R Lovell which I had rechambered to 222 super rimmed, this gun got traded back in 73, and shades of deja vu, it was at the auction in Bancroft last Saturday, Charley Meredith was very well regarded in southern Ontario as a varmint riflebuilder , and is mentioned several times in C S Landis's book".22 Caliber Varmint Rifles", when he passed away in the late 50's, it is said that his wife at that time had all his machinery and tools, including rare vintage rifle actions, and barrel's, and old vintage target sights, hauled away to the town dump! If there still there, its buried treasure. Although its probably under a row of townhouses by now. Regards Bully
