You will have to cut a good bit of the shank back. Might need to take some measurements to make sure you have enough metal to work with. You're going from a much larger case to smaller. - dan
The .250 case is shorter, and the shoulder is smaller in diameter. Enough shank would have to be cut off allow the .250 chamber to be reamed. It would be necessary to do some careful measuring to determine if it would be practical. Enough shank would have to be left to create a shoulder or a long threaded shank for a Savage style barrel nut.
If you are paying someone to do it, the cost might be significant.
It would depend on how large the barrel is ahead of chamber and for how long it is. Basically you need to cut the old chamber off, then chamber to 250 Sav and fit it to the action.
In the majority of cases this won't be possible. It is not something I would recommend. The labour would be more than if a new blank was being fitted. It's something some 'gunsmiths' might do for themselves... but I sure wouldn't bother...
