I have a 597 VTR .22lr with a fixed stock. I have been trying in vain to find a complete kit in Canada to change from fixed stock to adjustable stock. Any information would be appreciated.

The 597 VTR is threaded like an AR-15, any receiver extension and stock that matches on it (mil-spec or commercial) will fit. However, you don't need the spring and buffer.
Usually you need to buy those separately, but some manufacturers make complete kit like ATI; which also include the buffer and spring (useless for you).
However, if you buy separately, you'll need also a castle nut and an end plate. It would also be practical to buy an AR stock wrench to tighten the castle nut.

If you were to buy from CTCSupplies:

FabSports has the ATI kit without a stock and has the wrench:

SFRC has the Troy complete kit:

Other sponsors should have stocks and AR parts.
FYI, you should have posted your thread under the Rimfire subforum (http://www.canadiangunnutz.com/forum/forumdisplay.php/76-Rimfire) rather than the general one.
