Looking to buy a .22 Pistol.

I was thinking about the GSG 1911 or Ruger MK III Hunter Short.

The GSG is $380, the Ruger $740...

...I like the feel of the Ruger and have never handled a GSG (but have read good things)...

...But almost double the price.

Would like to hear any opinions by people who have used either or both.

I have a GSG and it is accurate and fun to shoot. Beretta Neo is a nice 22, Browning has the Buckmark, both of these will be well under $700.00. FS

You can get a standard MKIII for $450, and a 22/45 for $350 adding around $100 if you want stainless.

You are comparing the most expensive Ruger model. There are lots of cheaper options from Ruger more comparable to the GSG.

It would be hard to argue reliability or longevity between the 2. Ruger wins hands down.

That said the GSG looks better than the space gun Ruger, but I just bought a Ruger. LOL

All I can say it I got a Ruger Target 512 MKIII (5 1/2" bull barrel) all blued, from Epps for $397. It's awesome. I got a mag loader for it and I burn the mags through it with no issues. Shoots better than me.

I hear a lot of good things about the Ruger and I'm thinking of picking one up in the future. At the moment my .22 pistol is a GSG, it feels awesome and functions flawlessly, I shoot the cheap Federal stuff and it eats it up.

Thanks for all the replies...

...Anyone know how much additional magazines are for each of those pistols?, And how easy are they to get?...

...LOL, I don't want to buy a pistol that has magazines that are more difficult to get than the 10 rounders for my AIA Enfield!

You can easily find Ruger pistol-magazines for about $25/pop :yingyang: , if not cheaper still ! :)

Have both at home (well gsg tactical / mkIII competition). Both are nice. one is a space gun, one is a 1911. The space gun will probably outlast the gsg, but both are metal.

I've shot both. The Ruger is accurate and feels nice in the hand, nothing bad to say about it. I bought the GSG b/c I wanted a 1911 that was cheap to feed and easy to get the wife hooked on. Either way "YOUR WINNING"

Apparently, if you go out and buy both, this discussion becomes moot. Please buy both and make everybody happy.

I have the GSG 1911 and am waiting for the 22/45 Mark III 6.88" Barrel Hunter. (I already have the 1911 grips with the finger grooves sitting patiently at home waiting for it.)

I haven't shot this particular Ruger model, but I have shot regular Mark IIIs (if you can call anything Ruger "regular") and that's why I decided to own both and enjoy both.

The GSG 1911 was $379 (didn't need any tactikool add-ons.)
The Ruger's more $$$ but then Ruger have built a reputation.
The GSG is catching up

go with the ruger, can easily find upgrade parts and hopefully one day, the tactical Solutions pac-lite barrels, those things look awesome. (Waiting for my MKIII 22/45 ro arrive, so to stem the impatience been checking out all the upgrades and such for it, not dissappointed i went the ruger over the GSG)
