A while back I looked through a Lee Enfield book to check the markings on my No4 MK1. It said that this star marking is an Malaysian acceptance mark. I just accepted it and moved on.

Recently I did a little more google-ing and seems like Malaysia only used No5 rifles. Mine is a de-sporterized and was never a fake No5.

Does anyone have a proper answer? Not a lot of info on Malaysian English made Enfields.

Here is the star mark in question:

A couple extra markings that may help

Serial Number JC2990
It did go through the FTR and has JC2996 serial next to the FTR markings. Why does it have two serial numbers on the receiver?

Marking on receiver is a star with W.

You are right. I found some info on it. You really do know your stuff.

My research shows that some Canadian units contacted Weedon about faulty magazines and they replaced them. That would explain why the mag number does not match any other ones. Then the stamp to show that it was actually fixed.

Does that mean this rifle got FTR twice then?

Sort of?

I wouldn't consider going through Weedon an FTR process since they were specified defects, not a whole inspection like Fazakerly or BSA would have given for FTR.

Kinda like taking your truck in for an oil change versus a full warranty inspection.
