i recently bought a NEF 45/70, i had a red dot scope installed on it, haven't used it but i already don't like it! im looking to buy a low power scope 1.5x4.5 made by Bausch & Lomb model elite 3000, i cant seem to find any helpful info on this scope, can you guys help me out!? the longest shot i would probably take would be 100 yards at the MOST. i don't what else to mentioned but any help would be great!

Bausch & Lomb made good scopes. When Bushnell bought them out they became their top of the line models, eventually dropping the B&L name to become the current Bushnell Elite series.

I use an old Weaver 1.5-4.5x20 and find it is enough magnification for big game hunting at 100 yards.

I have one of those exact ones. It was on my Marlin lever action in 444, then it fogged up and after repair currently sits on my Ruger 10/22.

It has good optics and is very clear for a relatively low priced scope, right up there with the Leupold VX-II, maybe a bit clearer. That said, I won't buy any more Bushnell, it took several months to get this one back from repair. There are lots of threads on poor customer service from Bushnell, especially long wait times.

That scope is available in the 3200 line now, so look for info on a Bushnell Elite 3200 1.5-4.5x32, same scope.

I've used Leupolds 1-4 and 1.5-5's and am really pleased with them. Whatever scope you decide on my PERSONAL advice is to get one with a thick reticle if at all possible. I've found that the thicker ret. stands out well, especially if you're in thick bush and keep it on 1-2X.

Just a suggestion here...you may find that a shotgun scope works better for you. H&R's need to have scopes mounted fairly high up to clear the hammer spur, and you usually need to put a hammer extension on to allow for easier manipulation when cocking or uncocking the gun. Many shotgun scopes have more eye relief than typical rifle scopes, and you can mount them far enough forward that the eyepiece bell is in front of the hammer, so you can mount the scope using low rings and not need the hammer extension. I have a couple of H&R's set up this way and it works very well for me.
