It all depends how much speed you want out of it, mind you if it is a lead semi-wad cutter you will want to keep your speeds down to avoid leading. I have had good luck with Alliant Bullseye, Hogdon Tite-group and recently IMR trailboss. All of my loads are kept below 1000 fps. If I want more oophf I will use H110 or Win 296 with a gaschecked or jacketed bullets. By the way I stick to .38 spl brass for all of my light loads. I have found you have to use more powder to obtain similar velocity in magnum brass and they aren't as accurate for some reason (inconsistant ignition due to more air space is my assumption).
