I'm a newbie handgunner, with a range membership at Target Sports, Gormley. Own a .22lr Ruger 22/45 and a Glock17, gen 4.

I'm trying to find a professional handgun teacher so that I can learn to shoot properly, instead of just blasting shotgun patterns at 10 yards with my 9mm.

Looking for someone in Southern Ontario, any recommendations?

Contact member Tritium on this board. I'm not sure if he does one-on-one training but he should be able to point you in the right direction or get you involved in one of his pistol courses. He's based in Ottawa though.

Too bad you are not here, but there is a lot of little things you CAN do.

Dry fire, you'll see if you flinch
Trigger control, and wich part of your finger pull the trigger.
Ask a friend to film you during shooting handguns. You'll see what wrong.
Body position and alignement.
How is your grip? How much pressure do you apply.

There is a lot of things you can do, but when you got thé technique shoot, shoot, shoot.....
Start at 7y if 10y is too far. Control your gun at 7y before trying at 10y.

What are 7y and 10y?

I picked up the Magpul Dynamic handgun dvd from Questar and they show and talk about proper stance, grip, sight alignment, trigger control, breathing, all the fundamentals. So I have the basic concepts down, but nothing is better than that one to one training.

Filming is a good idea, might try that too. Thanks.

I'm a member of target sports too. Let's go shooting. I know of few people that have the credentials that can help. I took few courses with instructors locally. Send me a PM.

Y = yard, Doh! Kinda of obvious now.

Yes, I usually bring the target in as close as 5 yards and try to group my shots inside a 4 inch circle. I find that my shots tend to "fall" to the lower left side consistently. I think that I'm having trouble with the Glock trigger, and spoiling the shot.

From reading threads on CGN regarding Glock stock triggers, they can be hard to master. Understanding the problem is the first step to solving it, so I'm half way there.
