Good day, I am season reloader, roll mine own since 40 years, mainly American and some metric cartridges but never done .404 Jeffery.
The rifle is not made at this time it will be made soon using a Mauser 98 action and a Lothar Walther barrel. Got a set of die from Redding and brass will came from Hornady. I will only use 400 grain bullets. On hand have the following: powders IMR 3031, 4350 and 4831, Retumbo and H1000, primers WW regular and magnum but if necessary to get other components not a problem.
I some one has experience reloading this cartridge and don't mind to share data i really appreciate .
Thanks to all Roberto

Which brand of 400gr bullets are you planning on using?
What will you be hunting and where (temp sensitive powders come into play).

From my 416 rigby, its surprising that the powders used are not slow magnum powders. Without looking it up, my powder is IMR 4350.

Try IMR or Nosler site, it will give you a idea. Your velocity is going to be about a 303 British, thus a premium bullet is not always necessary. Good old cup n core is fine, unless your going to Africa. Africa, partitions and solids.

Hello Sir, thanks for your reply, I am fully aware that some powders are more sensitive to temperature , in regard to the brand/type of bullet that i will use since never hunted/fired with this caliber i am open to suggestions, I did hunt in South Africa during april 2018 only plaine animals, I would like to return if budget/health/age would allowed me... the PH that guided me he told me He could met me in Johannesburg and guide me to a female lion hunt on kalahari for 5k....
I am collecting.. sort of it....rifles have several in american and metric caliber but this will be the first African classic.
So for now when finish not started yet ...will kill paper target and maybe a black bear or a moose.
By the way when i was in S.A. I didn't bother to bring any of mine rifles to much paper work to fill and the PH told me if I am comfortable he could lend me a Remington .300wm, not a problem, Remington Core lock 180 grain cartridges. they did the job on all game ..one shot one kill even on bigger game like zebra an koudou. The koudou was the longest shot from one side of a canyon to the other side close to 400 yrds.
Here in Canada I use mainly Hornady spire points and Nosler partition for american caliber, and some Nosler cupro/Nickel dual core with plastic point for 6.5x55, 8mm and 9.3x62 bought a load 35 yr. a go and still have a reasonable supply. I also cast a 350 gas check for my 45/70 made out of Siamese Mauser.
Have a nice week-end Regards Roberto
Here in Canada I
