is there an universal case trimmer which can handle all calibers without buying anything additional in the future? i figure that if i have to buy all the case length gauges + shell holders (like the lee ones) i need, the total quickly adds up.

also, does 30 Carbine ever need trimming?

Alot of them are as above, they come with pilots for the common sizes, some use the shell holder from your press, i don't see that as a negative.

I use a Forster Trimmer with the necessary collets to hold the case. You may need a longer base if you go for the full length magnums.

Has worked really well for me and their outside neck turner is decent.

yes 30 carbine does need to be trimmed

it headspaces on the case mouth so the length IS important

it really depends on your rifleome of my carbines i can shoot many times with no change others the brass needs to be trimmed after 1 or 2 times.... I use the lee trimmer myself slow but it works I watch tv while I trim

...stay with the Lee trimmer...

...and use it in an electric drill....later on in life (when you contract arthritis) you will be glad that you are not using a handcrank tool that hurts your fingers so much......buy extra used gauges at gunshows for one dollar....

any idea where I can get a longer base ? my 300wm just barly fits with the trimmer, but I ordered a neck trimmer for it as well and there is no way the 300wm will fit anylonger lol.

RCBS with three way and lee

I use both the RCBS with the three way head and the lee case length on their zip trim power head. I like them both but the lee is much faster to set up and as accurate as I need.
:)

anything over a couple hundred cases I'd look at the Gracey or the Giraud trimmers... I have the Giraud... 400 cases an hour or more... works like a pencil sharpener only faster... they end up all perfectly the same, more of a competitors tool I suppose by the time you checked them with calipers you could have run them in the Giraud and if it needs cutting it'll do it...

I've just done a couple of serious re-vamps to my reloading bench, one was to purchase an RCBS Chargemaster and the other was the Lyman Universal Powertrimmer. I've played with the Chargemaster....oh yeah!, this weekend I'll put the Lyman powertrimmer to the test and let you know what I think.
