Hi, I'm looking for some kindly fellow reloader to supply me with information to reload this turn of the century british double rifle cartridge.

I have some Kynoch brass which is once fired, berdan primed, but none the less ready for 40 grains of cordite. Does anyone know the equivilent to 40 grains of cordite? The gun indicates that it is regulated for 270 grn. bullet and the mentioned powder charge.

I'll take any and all suggestions...

Thanks much,

Steve

375 flanged

There are two (2) 375 Flanged ........375 Nitro Express (2 1/2 inch)...and it was introduced in 1899.
The 2nd is the 375 Flanged Magnum Nitro express....375 H &H with a rim (flange). no belt.....invented 1912......usually found in "double" rifles....#2 being nearly on par with regular 375 H &H Mag load wise......

which one do you want data for....

hs 4570... .....your mileage may vary

Hi some info for you:
Cartridges of the world 10th edition list the 375 Flanged(2 1/2inch) with a 270 gr bullet @ 2000 fps. So I would assume this is what your rifle is regulated for, and this should be your target velocity for this rifle. It also states that Betram Brass makes cases for this caliber.
OK on to the Handloaders Manual of Cartridge Conversion; Load data listed for this calber is a 285 gr. bullet with 46.0 gr. IMR 3031 for a velocity of 1890 fps., if your gun is regulated for a 270 gr. bullet chances are you will not have much success with a 285 gr. bullet.

But the book also lists a 375 Flanged magnum express. The way to tell the difference is case length, 2.5 " For the Flanged(straight case) or 2.94" for the flanged magnum express(has a shoulder). Above data is for the 2 1/2" variant and is directly quoted from the publications. I have a copy of the article Mauser 98 is telling you to read if you need it I will scan and email it to you. Please be carefull it would be horrible to damage and old double or yourself.
