Need scope gurus input for Tavor

While I'm waiting for my firing pin to arrive, I keep asking myself with what to replace the mepro on my tavor. The use would be at 300m and closer; so no 32x scope nearly as long as the rifle should find its way on. An illuminated reticule is mandatory as of personnal preference. There are a lot of possibility/differences for smaller scopes of lower magnification range with almost none that I've not seen in person; quite complicated when adding the light transmission and some other quality related details... The reason of my question. I've found a few, feel free to advise !


I'll start with the lower priced items:

Millet DMS-1 1-4x24
Falcon 1.5-5x30 SIR

I consider these two at the bottom of my list: the first got an interesting reticule compared to the second, yet I have doubts about millet's quality while the falcon are great in that department as I've read around here. Do the recticule of these scope might be visible in daylight ?? Its one of my main concern.

When going a bit higher in price:

Burris XTR-14 1-4x24
Meopta Meostar R1 1-4x22 Ill/K-dot (I've looked at the non-illuminted version and liked the overall quality even if its big)
Leupold Mark 4 MR/T 1.5-5x20mm M2

It is getting pricier but seems nicer too, they all look interesting. The burris has the super duper 1000m BDC but I like its illumination pattern and if it brings quality the price may not be too bad either. I've added the Meopta since I've read nice feedback from our southern friends.

The wallet-emptying category:

Nightforce NXS 1-4x24
US Optics SN-4S 1-4x22
S&B Zenith 1.1-4x24
S&B Short Dot 1.1-4x20

Now I'm completely lost, I know that either of these are excellent and I'd lend toward the nightforce or the USO as both are slightly cheaper in price while still offering the top. :bangHead: Is there any other difference between the zenith and the tactical short dot beside the reticule, the focal plane difference and 600$ ? Because I really like the flash dot No. 2 :redface:


What do you think ?
 
Don't think I can offer much advice but I do own a USO SN4s and its a fantastic scope for short-medium range. The clarity is outstanding. Highly recommended but of course not cheap.

I understand the pricing factor, but still it may not be as high as the short dot. Do you have a illuminated recticule on your particular scope ? Is it strong enough to be seen a bit in the daylight ?

About the MARS, It looks like some sort of eotech with added laser pointers which use the forward slot on the forearm as a switch to trigger it. It must be of high quality but the pricing is steep for a non magnified optic; around 1000$.
 
I have a TA-31F with a larue on my XCR and I am 100% satisfied. I just want something different.
 
FWIW the NF scopes are much closer in price to the Leupold Mk IV than to the S&B. I use both the 2.5-10x24mm NF and the 1.5-5x20mm Leupold for service rifle and they both perform very well.

You're right ! I've just looked around a bit, the Leupold is below the 1000$ bar, this looks good

In fact I'm leaning more and more in the NF & USO direction as I think about it ! Both are top shelf quality, have reticules that I find interesting and are more pleasently priced than the S&B. Only trouble for the USO would be the time to get it... Either way they'd look awesome on the short black gun. I'll shop around to see what's the best price I could get either.

I now consider the leupold as the piece to be compared against. Would it be worth to shell out 300-400$ more to get either the NF or the USO ? Sturdier build, better glass, reticule choice, smaller size & knobs and front focal plane & green Illumnation (for the USO). What do you think ?

The Leupold has 1/2 MOA adj. and BDC dial (useful ?)
The Nightforce has 1/4 MOA adj. and small knobs & covers (great !)
The USO has 5/8 MOA adj. with some really small knobs & covers (wierd adj. but still great)

Complicated...

Good input, I've checked on wolverine supply's and found the 5.56 model for 1849$. Different illumination modes. It comes with its own mount, a plus ! What about the particular mount, does it have some of the woes of the earlier elcan scopes in the zero retaining hability over time ? That sucker looks enormous !
 
IIRC, TSE had them for $1600...but that was an older model. I believe that the current model is free of the old Elcan mount bug. Anyone with first hand experience care to comment on this?

As far as size goes, I think that it's pretty similar in size to the CF issue Elcan. Larger than an ACOG, but not really all that big.
 
I dunno.... I've just seen the nightforce 2.5-10x24, its just slightly longer than the 1-4 but with more available power....


I'll be assembling a riser soon...
