HEy guys,
Some very close family friends are having a problem with a fisher attacking their dogs and cats. They have tried traps and what not and cannot get rid of it. They have spoken to MNR and have a green light to lethally dispose of it as it is posing a danger to their pets. My question is does anyone know how to attract it. IE bait of some sort. Any advice/help would be greatly appreciated.

thanks in advance,

Daniel

A standard trappers cubby, about 2 feet long, bait, maybe fish, at the rear.
Oops, I just forgot, you may not be able to legally use a foot hold trap.
If you can, use a number 1½ or 2. Narrow the opening a bit and place a stick on the ground, across the opening. This is to guide his foot to the trap.
It is probably a male, so the fur won't be worth too much.

Set up a "running pole", with a 220 coni bear in front of a chunk of beaver or rabbit on the end of the pole. Run the pole on a 45 degree angle, use some evergreen bows between the spring coils over the top of the trap and the fisher will run up the pole through the 220 and he's done.

Use some skunk smell to attract the fisher, they are very very curious and will come in to investigate why the skunk sprayed...

Cheers

When I had a fisher problem (eating my chickens)...I put out a live trap with a can of salmon, and cat food in it. It took awhile to get the right species, but I finally got it. :D
Fed him a diet of lead. :shotgun:

Oh...I asked a CO I know about what bait to use in front of my coni-bear trap. He said it was ILLEGAL to be in possession of said trap if I wasn't a licensed trapper?

Live traps

Good to hear the live trap worked, they're not the easiest to disguise but your bait choice sounds perfect and you can reduce the feral kitty population at the same time!

Cheers,

FM

Type of bait? Well, to be quite honest, I have absolutely no experience with Fishers, so I can't give an educated answer. That said, if it is going after the cats/dogs, couldn't they just watch for it when the dog is out in the yard on its leash and give it a bad case of lead poisoning when it goes for the pet? (or am I just talking out of my a$$ again?) :D
