I bought a preowned Mossberg 930 semi auto recently. When I took it to the range it would only fire in single shot mode. I had to rack the action each time I fired it. There was no sticking or issue with manual racking of the action. After 4 rounds it quit working. I took it home and disassembled the gun. I found a lot of grit and oil in the receiver. I have removed all of the gunk and removed a small bit of grass or twig that had jammed between the hammer and the trigger group housing.

I did not oil or grease the gun as I was not sure how much it should get.

After being long winded I want to ask two questions.

How much and where should I be putting lube?

Any ideas why it would not perform in semi auto mode?

Thanks Trevor

How does it work now after you cleaned Mother Nature out of it?

Lube in a semi, generally light oiling on the moving parts is all. BreakFree CLP on the gas system, though.

Check your gas system for fouling and give it a good cleaning. At the rear end of the gas piston there is a sleeve about 4-5 inches long that slides over the mag-tube. Make sure it is clean and free of debris and veryyyy lightly oil the mag-tube area it slides on. Try a couple 3 inch waterfowl shells. If you were using trap loads and the gun was dirty you may not have had enough gas pressure to cycle the action.

I was using 525 grain slugs. They should be doing 1300 fps plus. I will lube and oil the gun and try it again.

I was hoping and got some good advice before hand.

Thanks.

Well after cleaning the heck out of it, and using G36 lube, I took it to the range. I now have a semi automatic shotgun that pulling the trigger makes it go bang.

I had a friend sight it in for me as my shoulder is shot out. He put three slugs into about 3 inches at 50 yards right off. I think it will make a nice bear gun.
