Need some advice of buying my first ar15

Hello everyone!

First i'd like to say thank you to everyone one here! It's been a wealth of information and help!

I looking to buy my first ar15 and wanted to get some opinions and help on what to get.
I would like something that is pretty accurate for long range as i plan to take it sometimes to an outdoor range, as well as indoor.
Weight really isn't to much of a concern for me as long as it's accurate so that i can improve and grow my skills and not have to eventually buy another one that is more accurate.

I've seen a bunch of reviews and opinions but there is so many out there that it gets a little overwhelming.

At the club that i go to, i was offered this model brand new for 1700.00+ tax:

Seems pretty nice.

I was also thinking about the DPMS Tac2 but it has that front sight that i don't like too much (prefer completely flat top) and seems to not be as accurate as the TPR which is a SS barrel at 20".

I also had the option of getting a used one that was a custom build, don't remember all the specs of the custom build one but if i remember correctly it had a Aero precision lower, Vltor upper, Bravo Company BCG and Charge Handle, geissele trigger, free float hand guard from Vltor (i think) and a SS barrel but don't remember the company and a flash hider from another company as well. I think that they wanted 1200.00 for the used one.

Also i was really interested in getting a RRA lar-15 x1, a little pricey but they have a 3/4 moa @100 yrds guarantee but seems to be hard to find it here in Canada unless it's imported!


Just wanted some opinions and thoughts if it was worth it it or any suggestions on getting something else!

I can't help you with which is more accurate for longer range, but I would suggest not to buy a " build" as your first. If you are planning on spending as much as you are, there are many good choices in that range, I can't really suggest which to buy,lol, not enough experience with any of them, but I hope some of the long time guys chime in to offer you some advice!
I'm actually surprised no one has chimed in before now
 
I would recommend buying a brand as they hold their value better.
That is unless you see exactly what you want used... then let someone else take the hit.

All of my ARs are built because it is fun to build them.


For brands I suggest:

LMT
WYNDHAM (not sure of spelling)
Daniels defence
Knights armament.

Alternatively buy as cheap as you can for you first and just shoot it.
 
I was in the same boat at one time (as many others here). I bought a Windham and it has run excellent. I would buy one again. Price on these is on the lower spectrum and quality is excellent for the price. They also have a great warranty and great customer service.
Like others suggest, get a factory built unit for your first one.

I just looked at what Aprilia and Redblack spoke of, and those prices are nice!
 
That Colt Expanse II is really nice! Especially for the price! Only thing is that big bulging gas block/front sight, but still for the price!

I can go up to $2000.00 in my budget for april, or if i decide to wait an extra month, then $3000.00

Going to take a look at western metal as well!
 
I've been reading a lot of recent reviews (all from 2016) on the ASA and doesn't look good. Bad quality and don't treat the customers good, problems with their warranty. Think i'll stay away from ASA.

The KAC are nice but a bit out of my budget, they all start at around 3500$+ tax, plus not even considering an optic and i'm looking at over 4k, way to much for me lol!

Or get something like a nice but cheaper ar like the colt ce2000 that Aprilia Man had mentioned, and still have enough money left over for nice optics and a nice 1911 .45acp lol! Too many choices!

But i think the old adage is still true, buy once cry once, and get the best ar that i can afford which is 2-3K.

I was in the same boat recently, only really wanting an AR to try one and to have one in the safe. I decided on a Sig M400 that I picked up for $1200 from SFRC when they had a small sale. I don't like the traditional V front sights either, which my Sig is a flat top, and I didn;t find a bad review out there so I went with it. So far, it has been a good decision. No hiccups after 300 rounds whatsoever and my 8 year old son can shoot it with the collapsing stock. It's a good budget out-of-the box entry AR

I do like the look of it, and the price but i'm a little bit wearry on getting it after reading some reviews like this one:

Also read that someone mentioned that after taking a couple of shots (about 30) they had to wait a while as it got really hot and i presume groups were getting worse.

Still reading up on them a bit more!

Do you want one that is complete and ready to go?
Are you willing to assemble a few parts?
Will you be shooting seated from a bench, or standing/sitting/kneeling/prone?
Iron sights?
Scopes?
Handguards or cheesegrater front end?
Desert camouflage colour or something less provocative?
Short, medium or long; thin or heavy barrel?
Stainless or chrome-lined barrel?
Buy Canadian, in-stock or imported?
